I thought the same thing when they covered a story on the news. I guess the bear trashed someone's yard and a dog is missing.
IMO- it should be removed from residential living and be it put back in a more natural habitat.
So when are they going to make an effort to get this bear? I don't mean kill it but can't they actively pursue it and tranquilize it? What are they waiting for- someone to get maimed or killed before anything is done?

You'd think they could set up a trap of some sort to cature it alive. If one shot the bear on thier property would that be illegal?
I say shoot it.
The good news is that dog returned home the next day however 2 nights ago the bear was in someone's back hallway eating a 50 lb bag of dogfood- that's getting brave!
A few years back there was a bear on the loose and if memory serves me correctly, several law enforcement officers shot and killed it and they caught absolute HELL for it. It would be more humane to trap or tranquilize it but if it keeps wandering among people how long will it be before someone gets hurt?
trapping is much more humane but where do you draw the line before some small child becomes a bear snack?
Will attempt to trap...
Saw a news story this morn........
Exactly how large is a bear trap?
It look like a contraption made out of a large oil drum....
They are going to put some tuna and other bear treats inside...
We should get one of the writers to do an interview with the bear if it is caught......
Bear Bares it All....A Speakup WNY EXCLUSIVE.....
(SORRY COULDN'T HELP MYSELF)
I would like to see the guy that get's the bear out of the trap!
We should get one of the writers to do an interview with the bear if it is caught
not me
How much does that bear trap cost? Are they getting competitive bids?
Shouldn't they do a study?
Do we really need to pay the DEC, can't we just get some guys with a pick-up truck from Marilla?
Can we get volunteers to trap the bear?
Who's gonna reimburse the people for the 50-lb bag of dog food?
How much do bullets cost?
Will it be Union guys that trap the bear?
How come the Southtowns gets to have a bear and the rest of us don't?
I always thought a jar of honey could catch a bear?
Why not just drop an anvil on his head, or call Acme Dynamite Company?
We need to put a value on a bears life. Is it worth a bullet or is it worth a bunch of DEC guys paychecks. Is there a bear budget?
Of course we can always try to lure the bear with a pic-a-nic basket .
Hey, hey Boo-Boo.
