i like to take a quick kick at the balls then knock em out. bam
I remember reading the answers to a survey in "Men's Health" or "Playboy" a few years ago.
It was responses to the question: "Have you ever punched someone to resolve an argument or problem?"
Some respondents stated "fighting never solves anythying..." "its not worth going to jail (hitting someone)..." "...Sometimes nothing but a good punch in the mouth will end an argument..."
Have you ever punched someone-Gotten in a fist fight to end a confrontation?
Have you gone out of your way to avoid a fight, calming your opponent down with words and shaking hands?
Coincidence is the word we use when we can't see the levers and pulleys.

Wrist-locks are your friend.
If you don't wanna hold hands, use an arm-bar. If they get grabby, bury their face into the ground, being certain onlookers are aware that you tried to control the person w/out doing harm to them.
If the situation is serious- as in life-threatening- you need to disable with a punch to the throat or an angled kick to the knee.
And for what it's worth, I'd never bother with a punch in the mouth. If they're tough, it'll just make them very angry.

Unless you like to be tied up in civil or criminal court for years, It's better to walk away, but if the assailant closes the distance and leaves you no choice, consider this:
- 95% of all street fights end up on the ground. An arm-bar, or boxing stance will be of little help there. Learn some ground fighting and grappling techniques.
- Suburban strip plaza Karate Dojos appeal to kids who get picked on in school, and are generally run by quick-buck fraudsters with questionable backgrounds.
- The Chippewa District is a good place to watch, listen and learn the dynamics of street encounters.
Also check out Joe Rogan's (carotid artery) sleeper hold on YouTube and decide for yourself if it's real. The Philly PD used a similar hold until they were sued.

You are very right about the quick-buck dojos. TKD immediately comes to mind.Originally Posted by ChaneysGotaGun
Arm bars and wrist locks are diffucult to use in a street-fight situation if you don't practice them over and over again in a formal environment.
Chokes are very real. However, they are extremely dangerous if applied wrong.
Best method to end a confrontation: walk away.
how very true. though, when that fails... quick shot to the nuts.Originally Posted by Yorku

Now-a-days, you better be damn sure, if walking away, your opponent does not have a gun pointed at your back.
Better yet, NEVER turn your back!
If a confrontation does happen, split second reactions could do you good. Make sure you have witnesses. If a fight ensues let the other person(s) throw the first punch(not saying you have to stand there and be a punching bag). Defend yourself by any means possible.
End all tactics that really do work, blow to the groin area, blow to the throat area, blow to the side of the knee area(especially the 'locked in place' knee that the attacker has all his/her weight on), or the ever effective 'fish hooks' to the mouth.
Please! Avoid "sleeper" holds.
If the brain is deprived of blood for sixty seconds, the person dies.
Don't confuse that with air, without which a person can hold on for somewhat longer--2-3 minutes???
Avoid fights.
If you're in a life threatening situation, reach for your gun but don't shoot.

Good advice, many brawls are ended with a quick sucker-punch, or 2x4 blow to the back of the head. Fighting "fair" is a myth from old James Cagney movies.Originally Posted by DR_GONZO

I have always told a person that fighting me will be boring because I wont fight back, so dont even bother. The very few that have called my bluff and came after me wound up wishing they didnt.
It's always easier to be the bigger man and walk away.

don't go looking for trouble, and don't start trouble.
But if someone attacks you, put them down as fast as possible (non-lethal) and get the hell out of there before their 10 friends come to their aid
