The author of a May 19 letter to The News tells us that he will have to leave New York because his boat registration increased from $18 to $45. Boo hoo. What about our children who attend poorly funded schools in New York? Shouldn't we worry about them before we worry about our luxury items? If this is the author's top priority, perhaps New York would be better off without him.

Poorly funded? Perhaps take the money that they spend on commericals in TV to vote for school budgets and apply that to the budgets. BTW, I thought NYS spends the most per kids compared to other states so how are we poorly funded?

And why do people think everyone else should pay for thier stuff. Weather it be welfare or education. You don't mind supporting the community but you get to the point where you might as well move and support another community for less.

    Education should be publicly funded.
There are a lot of people who wouldn't make it a priority and that would hurt this country in the long run. The countries with the stronget educational standardts are killing us in the market place.
Japan is a good example. Ireland is another. Almost considered a third world country forty years agoi it now has one of the fastest, if not the fastest, growing economy in Europe. The reason is a highly educated workforce. The industries thriving there are mostly computer related.
    Work that could be ours.

By the way, what happened to biker? I miss the old coot.
