BUFFALO REUSE CONTINUES TREE PLANTING INITIATIVE ON THE EAST SIDE

BUFFALO, New York- In an effort to beautify Buffalo’s east side, Buffalo ReUSE will partner with Re-Tree Western New York for a fall tree care and planting event. Buffalo ReUSE invites volunteers to join them in this community-wide effort on November 6, 2010, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. A potluck meal will follow the day’s work.

Buffalo ReUSE is teaming up with Re-Tree WNY for its sixth tree planting on the east side. As part of the Buffalo ReUSE mission, the organization works to green east side neighborhoods by planting trees, community gardens, and vegetable plots. This fall, the tree care event will feature pruning, re-staking, and tree condition evaluation, in addition to planting. Everyone is encouraged to help; training will be available on-site during the event.

Danielle Rovillo, Volunteer Coordinator for Buffalo ReUSE had this to say about the 2010 tree care effort, “This event is great for Buffalo ReUSE and the community. Tree planting is an important part of neighborhood revitalization. This event helps beautify our streets but also raises morale, unites neighbors, promotes energy conservation, and improves air quality.” During their partnership with Re-Tree, Buffalo ReUSE has successfully planted over 1,000 trees in east side neighborhoods.

Buffalo ReUse invites groups, families, friends, and individuals to sign up for this volunteer opportunity. Anyone interested in helping should arrive at the Buffalo ReUSE office, located at 158 Eaton Street, on November 6th at 9:00am. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a dish to pass for the post-planting potluck celebration.
