Run a spyware scan and then your antivirus.
I use Netscape, and just noticed my pop-up blocker is disabled. I've right clicked, left clicked, tried Tools, but cannot reinstate enable. Meanwhile, it's like my computer has a mind of it's own, even after I disconnect from internet, (DSL) screens continue to pop up. Any thoughts? Sound like a bug?
Go to www.onlinebuffalo.com and download from the orange button. It's firefox....

Agreed, but you first must remove the adware/spyware from your system. Do as 'Ms.Depew.to.you' said first.Originally Posted by WNYresident
Firefox is far better than Netscape and/or Explorer. Less hackers target it, therefore, less problems such as yours. You may also want to tighten up your firewall's security settings.
Thank you I will do all of the above.
I downloaded Firefox, activated pop-up blocker, and then removed Netscape altogether. I am still having an issue with pop-ups. Any thoughts?
Firefox has a number of extensions, such as ABP,that are really effective. As a matter of fact, they have a wealth of addons.
Thank you. How do I access that?Originally Posted by speaker
Did you run a spyware and antivirus sweep? If so, what were the results?Originally Posted by wheresthesun
I did, prior to removing Netscape in fact. It found and destroyed lots of perpetrators. I'm wondering why the pop ups remain, whatever happened, it happened during my tenure w/Netscape. Grrrrrrrrrrr. btw--it didn't determine that I had a virus.Originally Posted by Surfing USA

It sounds as though you have a "maleware" (malicious software) issue, which most spyware and/or antivirus programs will NOT detect. My next recommendation would be to go to, http://www.geekstogo.com/ and register as a member. These guys can help you with just about any computer problem and best of all, it's FREE! I registered with them a few years ago and can confirm that there's no catches to becoming a member. I.E. no spam. In fact, I haven't even received any emails from the website itself, other than confirming my registration. Good luck!
This will get you on that page and there's a lot to peruse.Originally Posted by wheresthesun

its usually the fastest way to get your computer back to normal. Sometimes you can hunt down what the virus/adaware is but why spend hours never knowing if you really got rid of it.
