    Niagara River Gorge

I've been spending a lot of time in and around Niagara Falls lately. Here are a few shots.

View toward the Falls from the Whirlpool Rapids observation area.

Prospect Point with the Falls on the left and Canada on the right.

    More from Prospect Point.

    Great pictures WSJ. Many thanks!
Grew up in the Falls, but moved away many years ago. Your pics reminded me what I loved about it.

Nice, I take my boys to the falls all the time. Hunter's creek is really nice this time of year too. Real mirror like effects.

    Regards.

I grew up in the Elmwood Ave/Whirlpool St area and spent countless hours in the gorge. Who besides me has been inside the old sewage disposal plant? And who has swam at the "butterfly?"

Gorgeous pics! Last summer, I did one of the gorge's "candlelit hikes" in the twilight and it was wonderful. We made our own candle lanterns and picked our way along.

Can anyone recommend other good hiking/walking spots, especially closer to Buffalo? We are relatively new to the area.

I grew up a little in Lewiston, and I remember walking up from the river close to artpark and stepping over what I believe was a Timber Rattle Snake. It was about 4-5 feet long, had about 5 inches of rattlers and was thick.

I'm coming back to WNY in the fall....

If you saw this snake anytime after 1958 you should report it to the DEC because that species is considered expatriated from the gorge after that date.

I grew up on Elmwood Ave and spent considerable time in the gorge and even swam down there. I never saw a rattlesnake, although I had heard they were there.
