    Alden?

I don't think I have ever been there. Where is it and how big...I know I could google it and probably will...but, it's better when people FROM there tell about it. I picture farms?

Oh, there's Alden, Alden Center, and East Alden. I run into Alden as I drive out Walden past Lancaster. It's West of Buffalo...just before Darien lake.

You know who I learned a lot about people from? George McCormick who was the principle there.

    Cool

Res, I'm very happy for Alden.

Now, I would respectfully request that you split the West Seneca/Hamburg/OP listing. I am tired of reading FJB's rantings (homophobic or not) in looking for the WS or OP info.

What do you think?? After all, look at all of the postings!

    Thanks!

Yikes, McCormick was there when I attended school. He was the "enforcer"
    The path is clear
    Though no eyes can see
The course laid down long before.
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen,
Though many times they've seen the way to leave.

It is great to see Alden has finally made the big time with our own Forum.

At the beginning of this thread someone asked where is Alden...well believe it or not we are in Erie County {not sure that is always a good thing} located just east of Lancaster. I always get a chuckle when people proclaim Alden as being in the "boonies". Actually, it only takes about 35 minutes to travel to downtown Buffalo. Alden's big claim to fame {aside from being home to the Wende Pen, Erie County Pen and the County "old folks home"} came in the early 1900s as people traveled from around the country to visit the famous Alden Black Water Baths. Some of these former bath houses {no not that kind} are still standing.

Current day Alden is predominently single family homes with a little bit of commercial and industrial properties and some agricultural properties {around 15-20%}. For such a "hick" town Alden seems to support an outstanding public school system, with the Alden Central School District consistently placing in the top ten of the Business First School rankings!

Hope this gives you a better idea about our community.

County, Town and School rates are around $45 per thousand and they don't wack your assessment every year or so like neighboring communities. School rates have been pretty stable and I think they have even declined for a few years. All said, the everyone operates on as a pretty lean machine...they isn't any gov't fat.
