BFLO NEWS: "Town of Tonawanda officials Monday night denied a permit for an adult entertainment cabaret and restaurant in an industrial area.
The plan was to open a restaurant and adult entertainment cabaret — featuring topless dancers and strippers — in a metal-clad building parallel to the Niagara Thruway.
Dozens of residents attended the hearing, and several stepped forward to speak out passionately against the proposal. Among them was Monsignor John I. Ducette, pastor of St. Timothy Catholic Church in the town.
“I am here because I know God is opposed to this sort of establishment,” Ducette said. “Anyone who looks with lust at a woman has committed adultery in his heart with her.”
Other residents suggested such a business would increase crimes such as drunken driving and prostitution.
“This is a shameful, shameful thing,” said Judith C. Glose of Delaware Road. “Change the ordinance. Do something . . . bring it to a referendum.”
Town Supervisor Ronald H. Moline said the request was the first adult use proposal since town lawmakers changed zoning laws approximately two decades ago to limit where such businesses could locate.
“What the Town Board did at that time was all that it could do ... and that was to restrict adult uses to the [performance standards] . . . districts,” Moline said.
Even so, town developers said Monday that it could be a detriment to development zones.
“Among other factors, the companies we are working to attract look for areas that are clean, safe, attractive and present a positive image for their business. The presence of an adult entertainment cabaret in such a visible location along the Thruway and in close proximity to an entrance ramp will certainly, in our opinion, have a negative impact on the decision of these businesses to invest in our community,” Dimmig wrote.
Town Board members voted unanimously to deny the permit application."
Once again, hypocritical obstructionists within the Town Board have nixed development of a business that would have contributed to the local economy and tax base. The proposed site was in an industrial area, far-removed from the residents who opposed it.
This is the same Town Board that gladly rubber-stamps business permits for shady, foreign-owned Quickie Marts that peddle death to our youth in the form of alcohol and (untaxed)cigarettes.
It's the same Board that allows Brothels, disguised as hotels that line Niagara Falls Boulevard, to facilitate prostitution and the transmission of of social disease, not to mention the associated crimes that go hand-in-hand with prostitution. Call any one of the "Escort Services" that appear in the back of Artvoice. You will most likely be directed to a Niagara Falls Boulevard Hotel in the Town of Tonawanda.

Did anyone notice the people in attendance at the Town Board Meeting on the TV?
Old fat women who are probably mad cause they knew there husbands would frequent the strip club instead of Sheridan Park Golf Course anymore.
The Town of Tonawanda is just, well dumb. It's not like Grand Island Blvd is a residential area, unless of course you count the "by the hour" motels in the area with mullet wearing people or all those people in those shacky trailers that reside near the power plant over off of Sawyer.
So dumb, I could see if it was to be built next to Kenmore East or next to Putt Putt on Sheridan Dr.
Great way to lose investment Fuhrer Moline.
I wonder how god feels about an establishment whose clergy have a history of lusting after underage boys?"...Among them was Monsignor John I. Ducette, pastor of St. Timothy Catholic Church in the town."

Is there a guy named Swanekamp on this Town Board?
He is the Chairman of the Planning Board, but was he one of the officials mentioned at the top of the article?
