    Jerry Falwell - Dead.

Ma' always said, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." so...

I'll let the good reverend do some speaking...

"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"
"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals."
"I do not believe that God answers the prayer of any unredeemed Gentile or Jew."
One beautiful thing about having a government of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations is that every disaster is measured in terms of economic loss. It's sort of like getting your arm sheared off in a car accident and thinking, "Damn, now it'll take longer to fold the laundry" as blood spurts from your arteries. - The Rude Pundit

it is strange... normally i'm pretty deferential about death. i've been around my share of it and know how painful the loss can be. that being said, when i heard on the radio he died, the first thing that went through my head was "good." odd...

Post Let Us Mourn The Passing Of A Porcine Parasite

Sad thing is, "fresh and younger blood" has ALREADY replaced Rev. Falwell. I don't know who it is, but our society routinely spits out scummy parasites like Falwell into the mainstream media;Into our TV sets and our newspapers and radios.

Can ANYONE truly, honestly cite any GOOD the Reverend Falwell did while he was on this Earth, serving God's will?

I abhor ALL fanatical "charasmatic" leaders of every religion that proclaim their "special connection to God."

I hate prosthelyzing pigs of all persuasions! Hey! I'm Jewish and I LOATHE, I DESPISE Joe Lieberman. He's a liar and a brown-noser.
I despise Pat Robertson just as much.

If God is as just and can judge our souls as so many religions are so damned certain of-
Then God will have booted Falwell into the hell he so richly deserved.
Besides. Jerry has a lot in common with Satan.

I wrote a very biting and sarcastic piece about Jerry Falwell in the "do you believe in God" thread.

And for the record, I am in no way "celebrating" Jerry Falwell's death.

And Falwell's demise will NOT change the agenda of the Fundamentilist Christians and their mission to "purge the wicked and sinful from the Earth," all of the "inferiors" and the "deviants" so that on Judgement Day, JC will smile upon his flock!

THINK OF IT: Falwell basically wanted the "unfaithful";Jews and others-The deviants;Gays and Lesbians treated as second-class citizens and deprived of rights.
Sound kind of FAMALIAR? As in Hitler?

    "Nobody gets out alive."

But if you donate enough money, you're guarenteed a place in the eternal kingdom of God-
Unless you're a dirt poor diseased "heathen" that hasn't put money in the Church's tax-free coffers and the pockets of its leaders-

No money on the collection plate?!
    Damnation is your final fate!

    Thread On Eternal Damnation?

I do not wish to veer from the discussion of Rev Fallwell's death, however, do any of you think that it would be cool to have a thread entitled:
Hell:Who do you think should be burning down there and why?

You know, just famous, evil people that are dead.
    No ex's.

I know it SOUNDS kind of sick, but a thread about "people that deserve to be in Hell" may prove interesting and entertaining.

    For example:
The Virginia Tech Shooter SHOULD be in Hell, in total agony for eternity, reliving the last moments of torment and horror that all of his victims felt;Mental and physical torture for this mass murderer.

This is a "vindictive," but revealing (e.g. our feelings of justice) topic.

I'm pretty sure that the VT shooter isn't in heaven, but I do have some (albeit small) amount of pity on insane folks who do terrible things. To one extent or another, they know not what they do, or why they feel compelled to do it.

Now as far as Falwell goes, it is my sincere belief and greatest hope that he is in hell, holding Pat Robertsons all access laminate, waiting for his imminent arrival.
I made a lot of money and spent most of it on booze, fast cars and loose women. I blew the rest.

I was never fond of Falwell's opinions. I didn't agree with much of what he had to say. I did, however, respect the fact that he had his convictions and, misguided though they were, he stuck to them. There's something to be said for that as it's a rare quality these days.

I'm certainly not fit to judge where his soul should be spending eternity.

Your admiration of Jerry Falwell's strength of conviction is laudatory.

However, by almost all moral accounts, Jerry Falwell was NOT a "good person." He was a manipulator, a liar, greedy, a glutton, a hater of "inferior people," Falwell deceptively brought together millions of "lost sheep" and gave them something to believe in:
Ignorantly interfering in the private lives of innocent strangers. Fellow Americans whose ideas didn't fit into their puritanical delusion of lies and BS.
If there's a hell, Jerry's a jumpin' in the fire!

Falwell's legacy is one of malevolence, regardless of his tenacious pursuit of his convictions.

Many leaders who have "stuck to their convictions" which has often lead to violence, misery and suffering of all kinds.

Jerry Falwell's legacy is that he brought all of the fundamentalist churchs/evangelists together as one entity which became so powerful that this religious bememouth DIRECTLY influenced the political process in the United States.

This is a group of people with strong, VERY conservative beliefs on Women's reproductive rights and death wished upon the doctors providing these rights, condemnation of all individuals with "alternative lifestyles"
-A very nasty and cruel group of millions of united fanatics with "Family values" that Jerry Falwell basically created by "sticking to his convictions"

ANY of these evangelists that have the arrogance and EGO to say that they have a "direct line to God" should be punished!

I mean, Oral Roberts and Pat Robertson are in the same class as the Pope and Mother Teresa?!

"I stopped going to Church because these priests are just regular guys! They don't float down from the ceiling in front of the congregation or anything! Who the hell are THEY to tell me how to live MY life?!" (Paraphrased from Comedian Bill Burr)

Religious leaders have NO place in our political process. Period.

Look how many times the Pope, John Paul II has asked or pleaded with the President Of The United States and was bascially IGNORED!!

WHY should meglomaniacs like Falwell, Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton have so much damned say in politics?

How incredibly cold most of the comments are

How incredibly cold most of the comments are

Falwell was a man of faith and he was trying to protect the values of his religion and the values of this country. Now I disagreed with much of what he said but I understood his motive for saying it and I do not consider his opinion hate speach or him a racist or a bigot or any such thing.

That sad thing about men like Fallwell is that instead of inviting people to christianity and motivating people to be better christians and yes that includes abortion happy women, pussy licking lesbians, smokin gays, adulterous heteros or greedy people of wealth or abusive people of power. His blanket condemnations just pushed these people firmly into the secular camp as enemies of faith instead of friends of faith.

Thank god...I have life long faith...because I learned very early in life that its not about having perfect faith in an imperfect life...its about trying nurturing your faith in an imperfect life filled with tests and challenges...of which we cannot hope to pass every single one. If only Mr. Fallwells legacy was less exclusive in more inclusive and there are ways to make religion more inclusive without abandoning religious teachings.
