OK - who is the code expert here?

OK - who is the code expert here?

Can one property owner literally light up another property owner's yard?

    Example.

They place a flood on the back of their home. It's aimed to light up their entire yard which in turn lights up 3/4 of their neighbor's yard all night.

It depends on where one lives Res.

I know that in the VOL, such irritating practices are present.

Although I understand that there exists a general, undefined "nuisance" law, which seemingly is a strictly subjective and undefined weapon in the government's arsenal, I am unaware of any code restrictions governing the specific issue that you raise.

Can any answer that question as it pertains to the VOL and in support of Res, in the town?

Why would you not consider calling the Lancaster Supervising Code Enforcement Officer Matt Fischione at 716-684-4171 ext. 141 to get an exact answer to your question.

There is no need to grease anyone's palm!

I figured someone here might have already dealt with something like this and would know the answer.

Thank you for the info. I will pass it along.

Matt knows the code inside and out. I've talked to him a dozen times in last year with various obscure questions when building.

If you had a neighbor who's back yard light literally lit up your yard would you care? Seems odd to have a camp fire and the area is lit up.

Would it bother me? Yes. I don't think Lancaster has any lighting ordinances.

    Step 1: talk to neighbor
Step 2: put up 3000W light aimed at neighbors while they're using the firepit.

    Step 1

I believe the neighbor was asked about the light and now they leave it on 24/7 from what I'm told.

    Step 2

So if there are no lighting ordinances I could see where you are going with this.

I would find that childish but sometimes you need to stoop to that level to get results.

I found this under chapter 400 Site plan review. I don't know what zoning districts this is applicable to -

Exactly! Why bother calling the Town Code Enforcement Officer for code interpretation, right? He's only the expert to go to.

It may suit someone better to get advice from another who has an opinion that is wrong, but is in agreement with your position.
