Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., said Monday that a federal investigation into New York's handling of data related to coronavirus deaths in nursing homes must move forward immediately.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D., and his administration have been heavily criticized for not fully reporting the numbers after Cuomo had directed nursing homes to take in residents who had been hospitalized with COVID-19. The backlash over this policy, which was meant to free up space in hospitals, intensified after a Cuomo aide reportedly admitted that the administration withheld data from the Department of Justice.

Do you think they covered up what they knew or were just too stupid to handle situation and it snowballed?

it’s beyond dispute that they covered it up. They admitted it. In doing so Cuomo continues his well established pattern...lie, lie and lie again. Despite language in his executive order that was as clear as language can be, he continues the lie that nursing homes controlled the situation. Despite the indisputable facts about the date of the DOJ’s inquiries, he continues the lie that their cover up was designed to prevent a federal investigation even though the coverup began from the first day his nursing home slaughter was exposed in the N.Y. Post and some other N.Y. press outlets in late April. They lied to the the state legislature throughout the summer. If the legislature had real leadership, like Joe Bruno and Sheldon Silver, instead of weasels and cowards like Carl Heastie and Andre Stewart-Cousins, his lies and the deaths he caused would’ve been exposed months ago. In fact, they likely would never have happened because the state legislature would never been allowed to run and hide like it did if real leaders were in charge.

Here is an issue... It's all opinion if they covered it up. Perhaps they were just slow on releasing the details. Who's to say what it was?

The governors office confirmed to the Democrats in the state legislature that they covered it up in language that is beyond dispute. They said they did it to hide the truth from Trump and the Department of Justice. The fact is that, prior to DOJ or Trump’s involvement, they repeatedly refused to release information, the disclosure of which was required as a matter of law under the Freedom of Information Law, until specifically ordered to release it by a judge. I’ll agree that Cuomo’s handling of this whole mess has been a model of Democratic Totalitarian incompetence but that doesn’t mean they didn’t cover it up. Clearly they did, as they’ve admitted.
