    China's Spying Overwhelms U.S. Counterintelligence

April 2 (Bloomberg) -- In a Santa Ana, California, courtroom, 66-year-old engineer Chi Mak listens to federal prosecutors describe how he and his family stole secrets from his employer, L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. The alleged target: data about Navy submarine engines that run silently to avoid detection.

U.S. intelligence officials say the Mak case is unusual -- not in the nature of the charges brought against him, but that charges were brought at all.

For every person caught and accused of passing U.S. military and trade secrets to China, they say, scores of others go undetected. Taking advantage of an outmanned counterintelligence effort drained and distracted by the wars in Iraq and against al-Qaeda, current and former officials say, China has systematically managed to gain sensitive information on U.S. nuclear bombs and ship and missile designs.

For me, what is even more infuriating is that 1) we are helping to build its economy by buying its cheap products and 2) we owe China a bunch of money. Doesn't it carry a huge amount of the U.S. debt load?

Can't forget about the Chinese drooling over U.B. and their 'Hey, have we got some high tech stuff just for you, China!' program. Anyone else shake their head at that story in yesterday's B.N.?

I have heard rumors about China using San Diego as a base for their spy operations, when Bill Clinton was president.

Considering the sources you usually use (achWORLDNETDAILYchooo!!), that you heard this doesn't suprise me, even a little bit.

For the last time: Doug Hagmann has his head firmly inserted in his rear, only to pull it out when he needs to copy someone else's work to maintain his track record of being right at least 10% of the time.

To set the record straight. I remember these rumors when Clinton was president. This was way before Mr. Hagmann was warning the American public of the Islamic and Chinese threats to this country.
