The Broadway Market is getting a facelift

The Broadway Market is getting a facelift. The exterior of the building is going to be repainted and the front of the market is going to have dryvit removed with the original blond brick being restored to make market look like it did in 1950s. Project will take about six months. Good stuff. (Pictures courtesy of Patra Mangus)

I like history, keeping old buildings, blau blau blau... but...

being restored to make market look like it did in 1950s
It's not the 1950's any longer and people have changed shopping patterns. There are also far more local outlets to purchase food products.

Why does the city continue to put money into this or are the funds generated by the rents from the tenants?

This place is a craphole. There’s no other way to put it. Exactly the type of dump Democratic Totalitarians like to piss away other people’s money on. As long as a good chunk of the money ends up back in their pockets, that is.

I don't get it. Why take tax money from other businesses and use it to rehab this building? The people who operate in that building compete with the people the tax money is taken from. Correct?

This is one reason I don't agree with IDA breaks for businesses that compete with other businesses in our area. Screw you guys. It's hard enough to compete in the business world so why take someone's money to help a their competitor? Or give them a tax discount making their operating cost less than their competitor. Oh yeah... lawyers are the politically connected are involved. Right?

It will take more than squandering thousands of dollars to "refresh" this building to bring people back to this part of town....to shop!
