Thread: Where Does Western New York Eat

  1. #16
oh, oh, oh, I love eppie rolls. Where is LaBella's?

(La Bella: is it the pretty one, or the beautiful one?)

Isn't it weird that a place could have great eppie rolls and poor pizza?

    What's an eppie roll?

And, La Bella happens to have good Sicilian.

And, Santaserios (sp?) is one of the best. Maybe the best.

Genesee (between Union and Harlem). Very close to Harlem.

La Bella Sicilia - My beautiful Sicily!

Rising: Eppie rolls are sauteed onions, peppers and very delicious italian sausage wrapped in a triangle of pizza dough w/cheese served w/sauce on the side. (Better ASK for sauce on the side or they will be mushy.

I don't llike Sicilian pizza b/c there's too much dough, aka carbs.

    But wait! There's More!

Buffalo Spree's April edition also covers diners.

    Their six picks include:

1 Jim's Family Restaurant, 2125 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga
    2. Woodlawn Diner, S. 3200 Lakeshore Rd., Woodlawn
    3. Cozy Nook, 111 Grant St. Buffalo
    4. Milo's, 126 Michigan Ave, Buffalo
    5. Lake Effect Diner, 3165 Main St., Buffalo
    6. Amy's Place, 3234 Main St., Buffalo

Again, no one is going to think any list is perfect. I think it's a pretty good list.

My favorite among the list is Amy's Place. Honestly, Amy's is not the cleanest diner in the area. But the food is great. I'm into ethnic food and their Lebanese and mid-eastern dishes are good.

The best suburban Lebanese restaurant is Tita's on Transit Road in Clarence. The best restaurant with Lebanese style food in Buffalo is on the corner of Elmwood and Bidwell Parkway, but I can't remember its name. But, I digress, because these restaurants aren't diners.

Shame on me because I've never been to Jim's Family Restaurant. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

La Bella Sicillia. Why didn't they say so. I know where that is. I've never been there, but I know where it is.

La Castellana, on Transit Road in Depew, has good eppie rolls. Actually, they have good everything. And, if you can put it in the proper perspective, Ms. Zangy, the owner's wife, is quite a character.

Why would they only cater to gay females? Oh, you said "Lebanese"..

    Nevermind.

I find Santasieros bland. My Daddy loves it though. There are several out of the way places I've not been to, have heard much about, and will share with you:
    1. Dog Bar--West Falls. Where's that? Who the heck knows.
    2. Boston Hotel--Boston, where else?
    3. Curly's--Lackawanna

Since we are who we are, I suggest Gin Gin. I've never been there but it's in a plaza that may become a Wal Mart. Great Symbolism.

But - is Gin Gin big enough?

    We need input.
No, it's too tiny in there... Only two tables. More of a take out place.

I know of that woman. She took Customer Service lessons from the Soup Nazi.

I think we should all go to theresin's house and eat.

What do you think of that?

You can give your left overs to his dog. I've seen a picture of his dog.
It looks like it likes to eat.

I suppose now is a good time to admit that I don't actually live in a "house", per se.

I live in a van with my dog. And, no, it's not "down by the river". My 2nd wife and her stepfather are good enough to allow me to park it in their driveway (I still pay their mortgage, after all ).

I'm not complaining, I agreed to the settlement after all. The only time it bugs me is when they have their "couple friends" over. I guess things get a little risque in there because I have to take their kids for a ride for a few hours, so they don't see anything.

So, I'd still be happy to have a SpeakUp party in the van, if anyone's interested.

    Yeah.

You have to look at her as a character because the food at La Castellana is great.
