Western New York teachers planning protest at Buffalo City Hall Tuesday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Teachers from across Western New York are planning to protest in front of Buffalo City Hall on Tuesday.

The 'Change Starts with me Rally' will start at 4:15 p.m., Tuesday.

The goal is to hold other educators accountable to combat racism in the education system.

Teachers are also demanding an end to practices that support the school to prison pipeline, while attempting to create a culturally responsive school environment, and empowering Black and Brown students.

Traditionally...there 2 parent households..nowadays teenage pregnancies that continue generation after generation , with the the father non existent, no support or even presence, and the mother (dropout of school)dependent on the taxpayer dime for sitting home and continuing to perpetuating this ...on the taxpayer dime...well you get the idea...and this is evident in all ethnic groups

From the Census website, using 2019 data:

    Erie County, New York

    2019 Population Estimates

    918,702

    Source: Vintage 2019 Population Estimates

    Median Household Income

    $ 55,673

Source: 2014-2018 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates

    Persons in poverty, percent

    13.7 %

Source: 2018 Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE)

Buffalo city Persons in poverty, percent

    30.3 %
Source: 2014-2018 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates

I understand that the data above cover different periods. Still, if half the kids in Buffalo live in poverty, but only 30% of the people in Buffalo live in poverty, does it therefor yield that 30% of the people in Buffalo have half the kids in Buffalo? That may be true. I am unsure of my statistics, and I am worried about mixing data years.

I need to spend some time on the Census website. I'm curious if this is true, and if so, is it the same for suburbs such as Amherst and OP?

Do cities with high rates of poverty have something in common?
