A Statement From Village of Lancaster Mayor William Schroeder

    UPDATE FROM THE MAYOR

    Dear Village Residents,

I would like to take this opportunity to update you with information regarding the COVID-19 restrictions mandated by the Governor and what the Village is doing to best provide safety for our employees and residents. This is an unprecedented situation and continues to change daily. We are monitoring all circumstances and events through our Office of Emergency Management Director, Scott Kuhlmey. He briefs the Village Board with updates passed on by the State and County so that we can make the best informed decisions for you. We have also implemented systems to make our Village as safe as possible for our residents by sanitizing benches, tables, trash receptacles and crosswalk push buttons in Village Parks, The Central Business District and at intersections whenever possible. We are working with minimal crews in the Department of Public Works and will continue to do so unless a weather related event causes need for additional help. We will be picking up brush and leaves on a call in basis. Should you place these materials to the curb, please call our DPW at 683-1028 and leave a message with your name, address and phone number and we will take care of your need. Sewer calls can also be placed in the same manner. PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH ANYTHING BUT TOILET PAPER! Baby wipes, rubber gloves and other like materials should be disposed of in trash receptacles.

During this difficult time where many residents may be dealing with financial hardship among other things, the Village Board has approved a change for the current sewer bill cycle. This round of sewer bills for the period 2/1/2020 to 5/31/2020 will not be mailed out, but instead will be added to the Village tax bill in June WITH NO LATE PENALTY. You may access your sewer bill account information on the Village website. If you prefer to pay your charges now prior to being added to the tax bill, online payments are available on the website for a minimal processing fee. You may also mail payments to the Village Hall, 5423 Broadway, or to the PO Box that has been used for prior payments. Please include your account number and address with all mail payments. Balances will be transferred to the County to be added to the tax bills on May 1st, so any payments must be received by that date to avoid tax levy. Again, there will be no penalties assessed for this sewer bill cycle and we hope that this extension from the normal due date in April will be helpful to you. Should you have questions regarding the sewer bill process, please leave a message at our Clerk's Office at 683-2105. We are working with limited staff and will respond to you within 1 – 2 business days. Our Court System is also closed until further notice.

Our Fire Department is equipped and has a plan in place for responses to eliminate as much contact between firefighters as possible. Please rest assured that they are prepared to safely respond to any emergency call.

In these times of such uncertainty and change, I ask that we all do our parts in cooperating with the mandates and recommendations from the State and County. Please check our web site and social media pages of important information and suggestions to help us all get through this together. Your cooperation is needed and appreciated. Perhaps you could offer assistance to neighbors by getting groceries or prescriptions, or even a phone call to check on them. Lancaster has always helped each other in difficult times and that fact alone is what makes us a great community!

    William C. Schroeder
    Mayor
    Village of Lancaster, NY

    Thank you Mr. Mayor.

LIDA Member Rinow to Member Ruda: You were a sitting Trustee on the Board. Did you help support Mr. Sweeney getting a seat on the CDC Board?"
