    A New Convention Center

Hey everybody, how about we dump $440 million into a new convention center that’ll be used about 40 days a year. Right after we spend $660 million to remove part of a bridge (only part, we have to leave the highest most intrusive part standing as a”user friendly” facility that can be used maybe 4 months out of the year). Buffalo is not, and never will be, a convention destination. How about this, for 10 years we get all the corrupt Democratic Totalitarian politicians and their coat holders out of the picture, we buy several boxes of crayons and lots of drawing paper to allow the “planners” to amuse themselves, and let normal everyday people decide the future of this area, decision by decision, unfettered by corrupt “green codes” and other such crappola designed to line the pockets of office holders.

I don't generally agree with you grump, but this is the case of a broken clock being right twice a day.
Here's why we shouldn't build it...not your reason.

Sounds like the train station in Niagara Falls that goes unused. And now we get schumer trying stir things along by asking Canada to use Pre-Clearance to enter Canada.

As a result, too many convention centers struggle to provide the economic benefit they initially promised. "You need to look very carefully before building another convention center in this country," Leinberger says. These centers require huge investments, money that could be better used "to bolster the quality of life, the parks, the retailing, the homeless situation."

I have said in the past if every "thing" provided the economic impact the community was promised our streets would be paved in gold and taxes would be low. Didn't turn out that way.

I still think the convention center if built should go on the cleaned up landfill at transit/aero.

We pour a few feet of concrete for the foundation and it won't make any different what was buried there anyways. I also believe it was cleaned up by the federal government so we should have confidence with what they did. It would limit the amount of rain water going through the soil so anything left won't leech into the water table. Win win situation.

This is a image I created back in 2018 below

I superimposed the #1 or #2 convention center on earth just south of "Flamingo Bay". Flamingo bay is a 1000 X 500 small lake.

Took the parking lot at that convention center and placed it to the east of the convention center.

We still have room to the west between the lake and airport to build a Stadium. Have glass walls for the suites that face the airport. They can watch the airplanes take off and land. People from all over the world would come to see that while watching football.

Just south of Aero drive we can build a state of the art world class Casino. I want that owned by the town so all the revenue stays here. Have to think out of the box how to lower property taxes because our town board haven't produced acceptable results and won't. I finally came to that conclusion last year.

We would have easy access off the 90, Transit and the 33. You couldn't ask for better access unless you built it literally from scratch. As a bonus people could fly in to the airport and shuttle to a convention under 5 minutes. Build a road specifically behind the convention center for the shuttle. This way they don't have to deal with any traffic. We have hotels near the airport for people who want to do an over night stay.

We can cater to water equipment type conventions because we have a lake that is 1000 X 500 feet. We just have to warn people not to eat anything that comes/crawls out of the water.

The town is centrally located between Buffalo and the rest of the suburbs.

Here is something I didn't think about. With the stadium so close to the airport it would make it easier for the visiting team. They can land and shuttled to a back entrance off the stadium. Convenience.

Personally I don't know why it would have to be in Buffalo in the first place.

    Dan Roman...

I think you mentioned in the past we can't build there. All we have to do is get that changed. If the politicians in Buffalo try to stop that from being changed we just have to find out who's palms have to be greased to get it done. Personally I don't give a **** if "developers" in Buffalo want to try to cash out on this if we can.

If there is $400,000,000 up for grabs I'm surprised every suburb isn't trying to get it.

In my opinion we are the best suburb where a new convention center could be built along with a casino. We have awesome access with the 90, 33, transit including the airport literally right there.

We have the mall, the best selection of fast food anyone could want and hotels around that area.

The name of the game is do things in the property owners "best interest".

I think that a new Convention Center should be built ASAP...then the existing Convention Center can be converted to housing for ILLEGAL Immigrants with covered parking... for their cars that they drive around in with their new NYS legal drivers licences...courtesy of a liberal Gov and his Democratic puppets, oh ya and fill their cars' gastanks with CASH allowances they receive from Erie co. Social Services...Damn ...I 'm so proud to be an E.C Taxpayer!!

    Joe Joe Joe....

I believe it should be turned into a job training center.

In the end this BS needs to stop. Specially with any sanctuary ideas for people who are not supposed to be here. This also includes offering to take on more refugees. I feel for their situation but let another "richer" community take on that burden. Any politician who wants to be welcoming to more burden to the community needs to be told to peddle their bull**** somewhere else.

the current one could probably use some renovations and redecorating, maybe even some kind of vertical expansion. All of which could probably be cheaper than a new one and tearing down the old.

Genoobie, all the reasons stated in that article are exactly why it could be built here. Thanks to years and years of Democratic Totalitarian governance this area has a penchant for chasing ideas that worked decades ago elsewhere. All that matters is that there is plenty of public money available for purposes of graft and corruption
