Thumbs down AFTER BUSH-Truth about IRAQ revealed?

After the 2008 Presidential elections, after President Bush & VP Cheney leave office,
will there be a FLOOD OF "TELL-ALL" books, interviews, articles, documentaries, investigations, trials for what REALLY HAPPENED DURING THE U.S. INVASION and OCCUPATION of Iraq?

Will the "veil of secrecy" and "media limits to information" be lifted after Pres Bush leaves office?

Will our troops returned home be allowed to speak freely about Iraq without fear of retribution from the government?

    OR

Will the government keep what the public doesn't know about Iraq "quiet?"

Remember that many of our returning Veterans have been told NOT TO SPEAK TO THE MEDIA

Remember that if the photos from Abu Gharib did not surface, there NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN A SCANDAL

Iraq after President Bush leaves office-
Will the World hear the truth about what REALLY happened during the occupation?

The existence of the Iraq affair merely 30 some years after the Viet Nam debacle is proof in the pudding of the ignorance of man.......

Why would anyone be against the prevention of the further spread of Sharia Law around the planet.

Is there not enough tyranny that people have to wait until their own neighborhood becomes infested with islam and when you speak out they rape and torcher your loved ones and then cut your throat.

Did anyone hear about the movement in Michigan of a community of muslims demanding they be allowed to blast their prayers through public loud speakers 5 times a day.

The govt signed off on citizenship for 7000 iraqi's that are moving to wisconsin soon, if they havent already. And they're persian iraqi's.

The only thing to complain about the war is that the managers are PUSSIES! And all the bleeding hearts are who make that possible.

Remember, you're not referring to the Clinton administration. The Bush administration is Republican, therefore, even what they attempt to keep secret will be uncovered prior to Hillary's campaign.

Bush sealed Presidential records for 50 years before they can be opened

Bush sealed Presidential records for 50 years before they can be opened.

He did this within the first 6 months of his election. Everyone thought it was to protect his father (it certainly wasnt for Bill Clinton though his records were frozen with Bush I) but looking back it certainly implies that he might have been intending not to cover up the past but to cover up his future actions....which implies he had intentions even before he was elected.

Bush jr. will be the first president in modern time NOT to have a presidential library because that last November 'til January that he's in power will see the shredders running overtime.

They feel the same about democracy. If Iraq voted today, they would vote in an extreme Theocracy.

Infested with Islam? Torture, Torture.... good thing we don't do that here.
(actually we do it there, so we don't have to do it here. :-)

Um, how about the first ward of Lackawanna, it happens there every day.
Jeeze, next thing ya know, Christian Churches will be ringing those bells all the time.

The govt signed off on citizenship for 7000 iraqi's that are moving to wisconsin soon, if they havent already. And they're persian iraqi's.

OHHH, not only IRAQI'S, the dreaded.... PERSIAN IRAQI'S.

Wow, and here I was all worried about being lied to about reasons for going to war, losing my civil liberties, and the loss of American lives on the whim of an idiotic administration with no plan.

You just keep thinking that way so everything goes according to plan. Remember, republicans and democrats are just smoke and mirrors.

btw, what the hell is wrong with lackawana? ...letting them get away with that crap!

86 the church bells too if you have to. Those things were meant for emergencies anyway.

Timmy's a bit off on the specifics, but yeah, it happened. The old law concerning presidental papers was enacted in 1978 in response to the dispute over former President Richard Nixon's papers. It made presidential papers government property upon completion of a president's term, and stipulated any non-sensitive papers be released to the public after 12 years. President Bush issued an executive order entitled "Further Implementation of the Presidential Records Act" superceding the old law in November 2001. Here are a couple news items from just after the executive order:

Then, on Nov. 1, President Bush issued an executive order that gives himself -- as well as former presidents -- the right to veto requests to open any presidential records. Even if a former president wants his records to be released, the executive order permits Bush to exercise executive privilege. It also gives him and former presidents an indefinite amount of time to ponder any requests. - San Francisco Chronicle, November 11, 2001
    Here's More...

So why does any of this matter? Well, here's a quick example:

The commission investigating the September 11 attacks said on Thursday that it was pressing the White House to explain why the Bush administration had blocked thousands of pages of classified foreign policy and counterterrorism documents from former President Bill Clinton's White House files from being turned over to the panel's investigators.

The commission and the White House were reacting to public complaints from former aides to Mr. Clinton, who said they had been surprised to learn in recent months that three-quarters of the nearly 11,000 pages of files the former president was ready to offer the commission had been withheld by the Bush administration. The former aides said the files contained highly classified documents about the Clinton administration's efforts against Al Qaeda. - New York Times, April 2, 2004
Note that the Bush administration blocked thousands of pages of files that Mr. Clinton had previously approved for release to the commission.

Please do not hold your breath to hear Michael say Thank you. But I will, thank you WSJ for doing the footwork at your own time/expense.

    Dumb,
I could find a soldier that upon his return said "Space Aliens tossed my salad", but it doesn't make it true.
A returning soldier can say whatever the hell he or she wants to say. Nobody is keeping them quiet. They are people like you and I, and they are under no obligation to keep anything under wraps. For every soldier you find that says "A", I can find 2 that say "B", and vice versa.
