It's common for people to be unhappy when someone comes along and wants to build houses on previously undeveloped land.

James Ostroff isn't just complaining. He's putting his money where his mouth is to stop a planned $10 million, 25-house subdivision near his home in the hamlet of Bowmansville in Lancaster. But if he's going to succeed, he's going to need a lot more mouths and lot more money.

Ostroff, who staged a one-man protest last week in front of the headquarters of Natale Builders, said he will contribute $10,000 toward the purchase of the 9.5 acre property and is asking other like-minded people to join him.

I give this guy credit. If you don't want homes built by your home buy the property.

So they would have to outbid Natale for the land?

I guess that would depend on the current owner. He may not entertain a bidding war.
Maybe he would just sell to the neighbors at a reasonable price.
At the present time, the full market value of the 10.26 acre parcel is $83,506.49

Sounds like Natale already purchased the site. No?

If people are really serious about preserving green space you need to fork over your cash before a developer gets a hold of the property and builds something that's allowed by zoning. Otherwise, you're a freeloader. This guy liked his green space when he didn't have to pay for it and now wants to crowdsource to keep it.

This guy has been there for about 25 years. He has had plenty of time to make offers on the parcel. Tough luck boomer.

Oh come on Dan. As everyone around here knows, my property is my property and your property is my property.
