Lancaster Village splits overage cost of new fire chief vehicle

The Lancaster Village Board approved splitting the unexpected extra cost of a new fire chief vehicle with the Lancaster Fire Department at the meeting Monday.

Currently, $10,000 is allotted annually for the Lancaster Village for the fire chief vehicle replacement. The fire department matches the contribution, and every two years, $40,000 is spent to replace a vehicle. This year, the replacement vehicle is around $3,500 over budget, and the village will pay an additional $1,789.80 out of the unallocated fund balance.

Mayor William Schroeder said he supports purchasing the vehicle this year, but the board needs to discuss the future purchases of chief vehicles.
“This is very expensive, and I’m not sure it’s such a good thing for the village and community,” Schroeder said.

How many miles are put on the truck each year?

Down the line, vehicles were passed to assistant fire chiefs, and every two years, one of the four vehicles is replaced, Schroeder said.

So in the end the older truck ends up being 8 years old?
