Independence & Conservative Parties issue disclaimer letters

    Lancaster Independence Party
    June 20, 2019

    Dear Fellow Independence Party Voter:

The Lancaster Independence Party needs your help! The Erie County Democratic Party has put up mock Independents, as candidates, in several races and is trying to steal the Independence Party line for their Democratic candidates.

The Lancaster Independence Party doesn’t endorse candidates based on their political party. Instead we support candidates who put public service before politics. Let’s face it, doing the right thing on issues is what matters, not how you are registered to vote. This year we have endorsed registered Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Independents for public office. Five candidates who earned our endorsement are Lynne Dixon for Erie County Executive, Frank J. Todaro for Erie County Legislator, Dawn C. Gaczewski for Town Supervisor, Mary B. Jacobs for Judicial Delegate and Darcey L. Sojka for Alternate Judicial Delegate.

Unfortunately, the Erie County Democratic Party doesn’t appreciate it when we don’t support their handpicked candidates and they have recruited their usual shills who have registered as Independents to run primaries against our candidates. We know Democratic Headquarters is behind this political trickery. Here is the evidence:

FACT: A Democratic political operative filed petitions at the Erie County Board of Elections. Campaign finance records show that this person has received money from the Erie County Democratic Committee.

FACT: Most of the petition signatures for these so called “Independence Party” candidates were collected by people who work for the Erie County Democratic Chairman. They work for him at Democratic HQ or the Board of Elections, where he is also the Democratic Commissioner.

FACT: There is no evidence these “candidates” are actively campaigning. In some cases, registered Independence voters, like yourself, are being asked to “write-in” the name of the endorsed Democratic candidate when they go to vote.

FACT: Some of these “make believe candidates” are the same ones they run every year.

Their plan is simple. They hope to fool Independence Party voters on Primary Day and get enough votes for the Democratic Candidate in a write-in campaign to steal the Independence Party line for the November Election. We can’t let that happen!

As registered Independence Party voters we stand for fair elections and honest government. We require elected officials to put the public interest first, without regard for political considerations. One of the reasons we registered as Independents is our distaste for these underhanded political tricks.

On June 25th let’s send a message that this type of campaign chicanery has no place in the Town of Lancaster! Please support Lancaster’s Endorsed Independence Team in the June 25th Independence Party Primary.

    Thank you.
    Mary B. Jacobs

    Dear Fellow Conservative:

Once again, the Lancaster Conservative Party is under attack. The threat comes from a familiar source, the Erie County Democratic Party. The Lancaster Conservative Party doesn’t endorse candidates based on their political party. Instead we support candidates who share our values of lower taxes, smaller government and professionalism. We only endorse candidates who meet our high standards.

The candidates who earned our endorsement are; Frank J. Todaro for Erie County Legislator, Dawn C. Gaczewski for Town Supervisor, Bruce E. Stutz and Robert E. Leary for Town Council and Diane Terranova for Town Clerk. The Erie County Democratic Party has sponsored and supported two slates of Phantom Conservative Candidates in a desperate attempt to trick Lancaster Conservative Voters. The evidence is clear that Democratic Headquarters is behind this underhanded effort to steal the Conservative Party Line.

FACT: The same Democratic political operative filed both sets of petitions at the Erie County Board of Elections. Campaign finance records show that this person has received money from the Erie County Democratic Committee.

FACT: Most of the petition signatures for these phantom candidates were collected by Notaries or Commissioners of Deeds who work for the Erie County Democratic Chairman. They work for him at Democratic HQ or the Board of Elections, where he is also the Democratic Commissioner.

FACT: The Phantom Conservative Candidates are not actively campaigning.

FACT: Democratic candidates we did not endorse are conducting a sneaky campaign to get Conservatives to write their name in on ballot.

It is sad that instead of running candidates that could earn our endorsement, the Democratic Party Chairman stoops to this level of political mischief. He hopes to fool Conservative voters, win a Write-In Primary for his candidates and then steal the Conservative Party line for the November general election. These underhanded political tricks have no place in Lancaster or the Conservative Party. We can’t let that happen.

The Lancaster Conservative Party has proudly endorsed Frank J. Todaro for Erie County Legislator, Dawn C. Gaczewski for Town Supervisor, Bruce E. Stutz and Robert E. Leary for Town Council and Diane Terranova for Town Clerk. They earned our support by being as Conservative as we are!

Please join us in voting for Lancaster’s Endorsed Conservative Team in the June 25thConservative Primary. Your vote for the endorsed team will send a strong message that the Conservative Party line can’t be stolen by outsiders who don’t share our values.

    Thank you.

Joseph Gallo - Second Vice Chairman Erie County Conservative Party
Deborah Lemaster - Chairwoman Lancaster Conservative Party

    What a joke

Don't the Independence and Conservative parties think their voters are educated enough to figure out things for themselves?
It would seem that those two parties are in collusion with very similar letters put out on the same day
Personally, I would be insulted reading this, "supported two slates of Phantom Conservative Candidates in a desperate attempt to trick Lancaster Conservative Voters." It's like they are talking to kindergarteners, in my opinion.

Maybe someone should start recruiting some of us Democrats to the local Conservative party as they endorsed a Liberal Conservative party member
in lieu of a Conservative Democrat. Then they could run real candidates not phantom ones.

I surely would sign up. I was a registered Conservative most of my life

Strange that you would be "insulted"when the light of truth exposes trickery.

Here is the definition of "trick:"
    trick
    /trik/
    Learn to pronounce
    noun
    1.
a cunning or skillful act or scheme intended to deceive or outwit someone.

"he's a double-dealer capable of any mean trick"

synonyms: stratagem, ploy, ruse, scheme, device, move, maneuver, contrivance, machination, expedient, artifice, wile, dodge; deceit, deception, trickery, subterfuge, chicanery, sharp practice; swindle, hoax, fraud, trickery, subterfuge...

I posted those letters to inform voters which primary candidates have been endorsed and are being supported by their respective parties. Why should this matter to a ‘blank’ who can’t vote in the primary? Because this is not the first time an endorsed candidate who I would support and vote for in the general election had a line stolen from them in the primary through undermining tactics utilized by unscrupulous Party Chairs, deceitful candidates who use the ruse that they are the endorsed candidates, by phantom candidates who get the required amount of petitions to get on the ballot and have no intent to campaign or serve – their sole intent to distract an cause chaos. And this year, that includes the two BOE Commissioners.

I am an advocate of fusion voting and believe every individual has the right to run for office. The deception taking place this year is far above the norm. You give the uninformed voter too much credit for having the ability to cut through the BS.

    Exactly my unstated point Lee.

It is unfair to enable those voters to make an uninformed decision, based on deception.

The Conservative Party endorsed your so-called Liberal Democrat for a non- legislative Town Clerk position – as being the most qualified candidate for that position.

For years, the Conservative Party had been endorsing Democrats for supervisor and town board positions. That stopped when a certain influential Conservative Party Committee member lost his influence and when other committee members asked why they were endorsing candidates not sharing their core values and ideology.

I always had questioned why a conservative party was endorsing and supporting Democrat liberal candidates.

BTW- There are so-called conservative-Democrats in the Conservative Party.

    Talk about a flip flopper:
This is such a joke. I'll recite some of the statements in the letter Gallo wrote in the 2015 Primary:

" I am writing to let you know that she is not one us...
She is running for office with the endorsement of the Ultra Liberal Working Families and the Women's TAP that push a pro-abortion agenda that violates the sanctity of life. Economically, they support socialist policies that would bankrupt the small businesses with a living wage, and drown property tax owners in bills to fund never ending social programs. "
Gallo ends it with this statement, "To be frank, we can't afford a Town Council with Dawn Gaczewski serving on it..."

I had respected Deb Lemaster's opinion back "then" too.

    Facts:

Dawn voted Yes 3 times to over-ride the tax cap
Dawn voted Yes on every liberal initiative submitted by the Democratic Supervisor
Dawn voted Yes to raise taxes in each of her 3 years on the board
Dawn voted Yes to award a $282,000 no bid contract to a firm who's spouse works for the town

Um, I would think the best person for the Supervisory seat would be Ron Ruffino. He voted no on these liberal initiatives....

Doesn't seem to have an issue placing more burden on every property owner.

    Res,

The tax cap vote was to give the Town Council "Standby Authority" to raise taxes if exigent circumstances so required.

No such need was ever represented, and therefore, I understand that NO TAXES WERE INCREASED!

I do not think a vote in favor of such "Standby Authority" can be defined as fiscally "Liberal" or "Conservative," but as restrictively PRUDENT.
To vote otherwise would, in my opinion, be rather RECKLESS.

Wnyresident, your statement is confusing. I thought you we're a Diane Benczkowski supporter! What gives? Cheektowaga, the highest taxed Town in Erie County!
