Secrets The Lottery Doesn't Want You To Know

How much of this video applies to the NYS lottery?

If so why don't a group of elected officials correct the issues?

What’s to correct? It’s a tax on stupid people, if they didn’t sell lottery tickets then some other tax would have to be raised to make up for it

Over time I have read the lottery money doesn't all go directly to the schools. Money from the lottery is used for more than just schools. If this is the issue how about just correcting it?

Perhaps we can have our school taxes lowered some.

Many of the people who you just called stupid are lower income people who believe their dreams can be answered just by playing the lottery. At least that's the idea New York State pushes with their commercials. A Dollar and a Dream.

I always thought those commercials were wrong.

Lottery money goes to the general fund, then the bs politicians take a few photos in front of some school in a depressed area and say look, that money is going to help little jimmy here who’s school is broke.

if the suckers, I mean lotto players, were smart they would put their money in a jar and be able to say look what I have at the end of the year instead of looking at a bunch of $2 winners that were oh so close to winning $5 or whatever. I’m glad they play though, they get to pay a tax that I don’t. At least when people go to a casino and waste their money they get some type of entertainment value out of it, or maybe a really cool jacket that has the casino name on it

I failed to make my point.

If the lottery was created to help education but we find that isn't totally going to help education why not fix that issue instead of allowing it to continue.

I know what you mean that it's money generated going into the general fund but in the end the money isn't totally going to where it should be.

Why let it continue? That's my point.

Just like the "Temporary Sales Tax" that was created 20+ years ago. Do they still call it "temporary"? Do you want people making decisions that effect your livelihood who don't even know what the term "temporary" means? Did they just lie to the community to get the "temporary sales tax" started well knowing it would never go away?

Many people call this BS out yet it continues. Why?

On November 8, 1966, New Yorkers voted to approve a constitutional amendment authorizing a government-run lottery. The referendum passed with over 60% in favor. The proceeds of the Lottery were to be "applied exclusively to, or in aid or support of education." In 1967, the New York Legislature created a Division of the Lottery and a Lottery Commission within the Department of Taxation and Finance. The Lottery later became an autonomous unit within the Department of Taxation and Finance. Under the New York State Lottery for Education Law, the director of the Division of the Lottery has full authority over the administration of the Lottery.

I wonder what year the proceeds started to just go into the general fund.
