According to the Lancaster bee, the board plans on confirming Karn's appointment at the next board meeting.

Nah! Drama and suspense? I think not.

    Follow the bouncing ball, Gorga.

In the Bee February 25th edition:

Lancaster Police Chief Gerald Gill will retire March 1 after serving nine years as Lancaster’s top law enforcement officer.

In a memo to the Town Board, Gill “enthusiastically” endorsed Capt. Marco Laurienzo to be his successor.

“No other department member has as much operational knowledge or demonstrated more commitment to the performance of his duties than he,” wrote Gill.

The Town Board entered into executive session on Wednesday (February 27th) and discussed the appointment of a person for the chief position. However, it is unclear who will be appointed the next chief and when, since the board will not know if there is a decision until after the interviews are completed, said Town Clerk Diane Terranova.

    In today’s Bee:

At Monday night’s Town Board meeting (March 4th), the board appointed Capt. William Karn as acting police chief.

The board plans to confirm Karn’s appointment as chief at the next Town Board meeting.

As chief, Karn hopes to improve employee morale as well as keep the department’s exceptional training programs and accreditation from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

    Comment

It was a foregone decision. I would have to believe the town board was playing nice with Chief Gil until his resignation day had arrived (March 1st).

Chief Gil wrote to the board expressing his “enthusiastic” endorsement of Capt. Marco Laurienzo to be his successor. That didn’t happen. Change was needed.

Today's Bee article states: “As chief, Karn hopes to improve employee morale…” That speaks volumes! Morale issues? I’m shocked – NOT!

Listening to Monday evening’s town board meeting, and hearing that there was a large police presence at the meeting, the attendees applauded and cheered loudly at Karn’s being appointed ‘acting’ Chief.

I never realized that there was a morale problem in the LPD.
Was that a result of the last contract in which they had to start contributing to their health insurance premiums?

Gill is gone. Karn will be the new police chief. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Captain Karn will be appointed Police Chief by the Lancaster Town Board at Monday evening's board meeting.

It is the right move by the town, IMHO!

    Congratulations Captain Karn!

While listening to Monday's town board meeting recording, Supervisor Coleman commended newly appointed Chief William Karn for his professionalism and service that qualified him for his appointment. She acknowledged that former Police Chief Fowler was in attendance and exchanged words with him.

Was recently retired Chief Gill in attendance? Was Captain Laurienzo (recommended by Gill for the Chief's job) in attendance? Hopefully, they had some class and congratulated Karn and wished him well in his new position.
