Because they have a job to do; the district doesn't want to be sued over frostbitten children whereas teachers have their own transportation to get to school. More than likely it will be staff meetings.

    they won't meet about anything

they will all show up at the start of school, bitch and grumble about how dumb it is that they have to be there when the building is empty, stare out their classroom windows until about 10:30, then go home.

Dr. Williams is not about to allow the Buffalo teachers one tiny bit of extra break after the stunts that Rumore has pulled

notice Buffalo public is about the only district that does that. EVERY time it is closed, staff must report anyways.

Just another way for Williams to remind the teachers who is in charge, and to tick them off a bit too.

ANOTHER reason I'm glad I don;t work for the city district

Wouldn't it make more sense to leave the buildings dormant when there are no classes? You know, keep the heat down and lights off....save a little money, rather than making "a point" with the teachers and their union? Or is it ok to waste money and resources when it's to spite teachers and the unions?

I think you've answered your own question in regards to Williams.

Does it have something to do with state aid? If the teachers report then maybe it's not considered a total closure and the school still gets paid?

    I don't know, just asking...

    there is no good reason

there are no kids to teach, so there is no reason to come into an empty building

They can discuss better ways of teaching children. They can discuss problem children and how other teachers in the school deal with the issues.

Or... they just don't get a pay check for that day. That would be fine too.

Yes,,, and one of those way is to teach parents how to care for their kids and how to teach them to obey the authorities, and while they are at it, they can also brainstorm on how to teach parents to care about their kids.

Everyone wants to blame the teachers...and so few want to ever blame the parents(unless their kid kills someone..and then its them and the teachers...never just the parents.) As if parents were a taboo subject and are sacrosant.

Williams has only gone after hte parents a few times....he's afraid they might demand his head and/or the school board...btw I never hear the school board criticize the parents.
