Ingersoll Rand threatens to end manufacturing at Cheektowaga plant
https://buffalonews.com/2019/01/22/i...box=1548193253Ingersoll Rand on Tuesday announced its "intent" to end manufacturing operations at its Cheektowaga plant by July, a decision the company said would eliminate 300 jobs.
A union official estimated 150 to 160 hourly workers would be included in the cuts. But Ingersoll Rand left open the possibility of keeping manufacturing going at the site.
"The company is in the process of completing due diligence to make a final decision, including discussions with the union," said Misty Zelent, an Ingersoll Rand spokeswoman.
Ingersoll Rand said it will maintain a technology center at the site with 150 jobs, even if the manufacturing operation is eliminated.
Could it be they priced themselves out of business?Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, said Ingersoll Rand's announcement "represents the latest in a growing list of local manufacturing jobs lost at the expense of tax and trade policies that fail to put American workers first. We are experiencing firsthand the failed promises of the GOP tax bill."

The soon to be out of work employees can apply at Tesla, oh wait, they’re laying off too. More moving trucks will be leaving western NY, thanks local and state politicians
Could just be the numbers work well at other locations. I wonder where property taxes have to be at to make the location profitable.

The company has yearly revenue of 13 Billion with a capital "B".
This is about consolidating operations. This plant was just an asset from the purchase of Cameron and was probably never in the long term plans. Its what happens when companies get purchased. It still sucks, but don't fall into the trap always blaming taxes. 200K is chump change.
I agree it’s about consolidation, but why not close your facility in let’s say S Carolina, and move those jobs up to Buffalo? Union contract coming up this summer, cost of doing business in NY, Taxes, add up. It’s a smart and profitable company, they know how to keep costs under control
Yep, it is to lower cost, It cost too much to do business in Cheektowaga, it actually cost more then other places in NY due to our high property and school taxes which are directly related to the pay and benefits the unionized government employees get in this town and school districts that serve it.
Notice instead of going after the root causes of high taxation the powers that be continue the practice.
I'm pretty sure this is an item from Ingersoll Rand. One of our clients repainted the equipment.
We worked with the company in the past. Nice people.

There's not nearly enough info here, but lots of speculation as to why they are closing...
If taxes alone were the issue then NYC would be losing tons of business. Clearly taxes alone do not paint a complete picture. But everyone seems to love to jump on that bandwagon around here...
