Cuomo budget slashes funding to towns and villages

Cuomo budget slashes funding to towns and villages

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It was a busy day on the phone Thursday for Town of Tonawanda Supervisor Joseph Emminger.
“Myself and the Supervisors of Amherst, Cheektowaga. And other municipalities have all been talking to each other,” Emminger confirmed during an interview with 2 On Your Side.

While on one hand AIM only accounts for just over one-half-of-one percent of the Town of Tonawanda’s budget, Emminger says that still represents a significant amount.“When you are dealing with a $100 million budget like we have, that’s a loss of almost $600,000 in funding,” he said.
Under the Governor’s budget, Cheektowaga would lose $821,000 while Amherst would lose $664,000.
That is a fair chunk of money.

Electric, tell everyone how much the budget increased this year. Where do you think we find $821,000 without touching our savings?

The PROJECTED budget increase for 2019 was $2.9mil. That is expenses that the town MUST pay. This MAY increase for the 2020 budget with or without this. Min wage is increasing again in 2020. The TCEA union contract is up at the end of 2019. This is a variable. If no agreement is made before it expires on Dec. 31st 2019 then no increases will be made unless negotiated, if something other then a PAY FREEZE or Reduction is negotiated (aka:any type of cost of living increase), The projected increases can go up over $2.9mil for the 2019 budget if they just follow the current contracts for all unions..

On Jim's blog a resident commented

Town residents should ask to see exactly how their town stupidvisor is spending their $. If you are already at the tax cap, it looks like a spending problem.

It's a labor contract issue. Yearly raises and benefit cost increases over the years add up. The town does have general expenses as expected but the majority of the budget is personal. Contracts were negotiated in such a way they basically tie the property owners hands.

I wonder what Diane's response will be to that question.

I'm correct though.. Chick-fli-a or not.

Between you and I (well everyone that skims), I was surprised Jim brought that up during his defense speech when he was removed from the board. Yes it's a new business in town but it's not "economic" development in any useful scale. One fast food place closes then another opens up. They have been busy though. Drove by a few times to try them out but parking lot was packed. Like dunkun donuts which is now popeyes.. etc
