Finance directors are members of a senior executive team with responsibility for their company’s financial health. They combine operational and strategic roles, manage accounting and financial control functions, and establish a financial strategy for the profitable long-term growth of the business. Finance directors also support and develop strategy to guide key business initiatives, according to Ernst & Young. To fulfill this dual role, they must have the versatility and talent to meet a continually changing set of circumstances.

A finance director is someone who oversees the finances of an organization, business, institution, or agency. Someone who holds this position may also be described as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). His or her job is to make sure that the finances are kept in order, and to communicate information about financial issues to other members of the organization and to the general public, in the case of finance directors who work for organizations which are accountable to the public or to stockholders.

In order to become a finance director, someone may have a background in accounting, or hold a Master's in Business Administration (MBA). Concerns about creative accounting in the corporate world have led some nations to require that finance directors or at least one member of the board of directors hold accounting qualifications. This is designed to ensure that people with accounting expertise are involved in decisions which impact a company's accounting practices.

    If I'm reading their 2019 budget correctly, they also have a Comptroller @ $ 134,800 and a Deputy comptroller @ $105,200

As is always the case with Democratic government they create do nothing jobs at huge salaries. In addition, the supervisor doesn’t do his job which is obvious to anyone paying attention. He works his other job and brought in some ass from Poloncarzland to do his job. It’s the reason every level of government in this state controlled by the Democrats is a toilet rife with corruption. Everyone should talk with dopey Debbie Bucki; she is confusion personified. It’s the reason people are fleeing New York by the hundreds every month.

OMG. Deborah Bucki. Is she still making her way around the TOA boards & committees? Yowza. Gotta be a coupla decades now, no? IIRC, way back when she was (essentially IMO) a marketing machine for her son - a then-aspiring lawyer - as much as herself. I never quite got what she brought to the table (or even what she thought she brought to the table). Unfortunate that she hasn't moved on.

Also, didn't there used to be a "Director of Finance" position years ago... and it was specifically eliminated by the Town Board? I vaguely remember some political to-do about that... in the 80's or 90's(?).

Member, the town voted to make the comptroller position an elective office some years back. One term with an elected comptroller and the town voted to eliminate it and go back to an appointed comptroller. That’s what you’re thinking of. The director of finance worked for Kulpa in village hall. The town survived nicely for 150 years without a director of finance. But now that Kulpa has moved across the parking lot to town hall suddenly the town needs this position. And, lo and behold, the woman who got the job worked for Kulpa in the village. I think the voters ought to be able to draw their own conclusions about this.

Why is the hiring circles so small? If the town is going to add a position to monitor the money side of things wouldn't you want to review a fair number of candidates for the position?

Wouldn't finance director and comptroller be redundent?
They can afford this but are cutting back the recycling program

What about the School Comish that will get He will earn $233,296 per year, that is only $639.17 per day or $26.63 per hour, what a deal for the Williamsville tax payers.

Let us put this into perspective

$233,296 per year. I'm going to assume this is base salary not including bene's and health insurance.

    $233,296 / 50 weeks = $4,665. I'm assuming there would be 2 week vacation

$4,665 / 40 hour work week = $116.65 an hour NOT including bene's and health insurance.

This is what is wrong with NYS and "government"

Personally I don't believe these positions are worth the money that is paid.
