Would Buffalo welcome this? The child will be the customer'

Bezos to launch network of preschools: 'The child will be the customer'

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Wednesday announced a $2 billion philanthropic fund to finance a new network of preschools and contribute to nonprofits assisting homeless families.
Bezos said on Twitter that the schools would be located in underserved communities and would be operated by his new Bezos Day One Fund.

The last thing I want is to have kids “educated” by Amazon, especially in “underserved” communities. The current schools do badly enough already.

Are you really sure about that?

What makes you think Amazon would do worse?

I don’t anyone being educated by the likes of Jeff Bezos. Other than being rich he has absolutely no background for this. But he does see the opportunity to create a generation of Amazon addicted clones.

I know quite a few parent who homed school without any formal training in "teaching". Their kids are really smart and bright. Look at all the people who have the "background" teaching yet we have high failure rates.

WNY, I have no problem with home schooling by parents. Most parents who home school really care about the future of their kids and that’s why they dedicate the time and effort. This is unlike Bezos who sees an opportunity to create a generation of hopelessly Amazon addicted automatons.

Well, liberal Dems don’t so much care whether they’re Amazon addicted. They just want to keep a large urban core of minorities who are basically uneducated and unable to compete in the workforce so that they remain as welfare slaves to the Dems. You can bet an Amazon owned educational system would be geared to putting lucky bucks into Bezos’s pocket through requirements that all supplies, books etc be purchased through Amazon. People in the educational establishment deride George Bush for “No child left behind”. That wasn’t his idea; it was the brainchild of Bill and Melinda Gates and the government got browbeaten into actually enacting it. Lord save us from more idiocy by liberal billionaires who think they know more than everyone else in areas where they didn’t make their money. And don’t forget, a lot of the crapolla that came with “No child” was designed to put $$$ in the pockets of companies like Microsoft.

And if in the end those supplies and books end up costing 20% less compared to now you see that as a bad thing?

Look at what "government" has given us to deal with. We pay basically top dollar for any or all services "government" supplies with little or no accountability.

Don’t tell me that you actually believe he will give a reduced price if he’s the one controlling both ends of the transaction and you and I are paying the tab!!

It's possible. It would be all verifiable anyways.

What makes you think it would be verifiable? This would be a set of schools owned, funded and managed by Amazon. There’s no FOIL or open meetings law for Apple.

    State withholds Welcome Center receipts

Months after the request was first submitted, state officials still refuse to release the receipts that break down the expenses at the $20 million Western New York Welcome Center that opened on Grand Island back in September.

If the Democratic Party public relations office known locally as Ch. 2 News wants the information so badly they should sue their boss Andrew Cuomo. Otherwise all their whining is just posturing while actually doing nothing. And the fact that the state doesn’t abide by its own laws is meaningless in light of the fact that the laws at issue don’t apply to Amazon.
