I wonder what kind of tote will confront and limit the bear population?

But, if the population does not grow, it will probably be captured, given a unicycle, trained to waive, and made an attraction for expanded "Special Events." The Food Pantry may need to stock-up on honey.

In all seriousness, this bear better not have the Amherst outcome. There would be a lot of pissed off individuals unless the bear proved to be a proven threat to mankind.

And I firmly believe the Lancaster police will handle the situation in everyone's best interest.

Yes, the bears come and go every year. He'll be safe as long as he stays out of Amherst

Until he walks off with someone’s precious Lhasa Apso or Shih tzu for dinner. Then the shih tzu will hit the fan. Or some new age mommy takes little Susie outside to teach her that the wild animals are our friends and things go badly. Or until it gets hit by a car or truck and is injured. Then one of you can take it into your home and nurse it back to health. Maybe we can convince WeTV to run reruns of Gentle Ben.

A bear is far more "exciting" than a fox, but Lee's comment speaks volumes about the LTPD. I had a situation back in either 2007 or 2008, perhaps it was later than that, when a police officer had to dispatch a rabid fox directly underneath our bedroom window.

The officer performed his distasteful duties with professional skill and humane care. Kudos to him to this day.

As an Amherst resident, I hope you’re right. I hope every bear who migrates up this way settles in your town, preferably in your yard.

My yard is fenced-in, but bears climb. Sort of disconcerting.

    To "The Hunt!"
