An article in today's New York Times highlighted the move of Oreck Vacuum company from the Mississippi gulf coast to Tenessee due to the problems associated with Katrina: loss of housing and infrastructure causing a lack of workers, high cost of housing, and high worker cost. Since one of Buffalo's "competitive advantages" is the lack of destructive (not just bad) weather and the low cost of housing, are any agencies in WNY actively recruiting companies affected by Katrina to move? For decades, cities in the South have been predators for WNY businesses, so shouldn't private and public agencies in Buffalo use this time to return the favor? What can be done?
Discuss.
I don't know if we southern states are Predators...Originally Posted by benp

lower land prices (This can be argued with the amount of free standing space)
lower taxes ( Lower city, county, sales Tax, state income tax gas tax)
lower labor costs (no a lot of them their unions around here and comp is lower)
lower power costs ( Ask your State Rep why this is )
Fix these things and WNY will compete... Till then I'll be here in GA with 70 degree weather
