They do have an affinity for the Swedes at the moment. It's like 6 or 8 at this point.

I also find it funny how little regard GMJB has for the OHL.

He certainly seems to favor college players. Sounds like it has to do with their smarts and maturity. It’s amazing to me how the mgmt of both the Sabes and Bills seem to be focusing on character and team building as well as skill when anyone who listens to Dope and the Bullsh*tter knows that all that matters is “analytics” and Madden football.

I get his logic. The OHL has 16-year-old kids. Those are Sophomores/Juniors in High School. It's really hard to predict the trajectory of a 17-year-old to what he will be when he is 22. I think this is why the NHL draft is so hit or miss. The top 3 players in every draft have a very good shot at being stars. Then from 5 to 45 you have pretty much the same odds. Unlike in the NFL where 1-25 are all high quality.

Going after older kids improves the odds on avoiding misses...which Buffalo has had many of. Hell, it was 50/50 Mittelstadt when he got drafted with the 8th pick. Nylander was the 8th pick the year before. One panned out and the other most likely wont. Tage Thompson, who I guess they are high on and is considered a better prospect than Nylander went 20 picks after Nylander.

The Skinner trade sounds like a good one. They drafted a core and now they need to fill it in with good complementary players. I think he steps right in with Eichel or Middlestadt. They have 3 first round picks next year. They got Skinner for 3 lower picks and Poo? Wonder what Carolina will do with the latter?

Who knows what Carolina is doing, They just tore team apart, almost Tim Murray style

Hip, they have a new owner, don’t they? Maybe he’s doing there right away what the Pegulas should’ve done here on day one. I think they’ve gone longer without a playoff appearance than the Sabres have.

Yeah, new owner, new GM. I like what Botterill is doing and I like the players we're getting, but I'm still not sold on Housley as Coach. If this team doesn't show a profound improvement this year, I think we're going to domeone else behind the bench

Hip, I’m concerned about the coaching. I wonder how long the leash is this year. Maybe he grows in the job.

He might. He has more talent, especially Defense, his fortay, but I hope the leash isn't too long

The coaching is going to be fine. The types of players they had were not even close to the type of players they needed to run the type of system Housley wants, especially on defense and especially with depth. They want a team that moves the puck and they are rebuilding the entire roster around that. It just takes time.

Look at the LWs last year after Kane > Larsson > Pouliot. Kane (29goals/54points) is replaced with Skinner (24goals/49points). That's pretty much even and Kane played in the playoffs. Larsson (4goals/14points) is replaced with Sheary (18goals/30 points) and Pouliot (13goals/19points) is replaced with Sobotka (11goals/31points). So Buffalo on the LW went from 87 points to 110 points on just the left wing. That's huge.

Then look at the Defense. Risto and Scandella almost played Goalie minutes and that absolutely impacted their performance. But this is a solid first group. The difference this year is that the 2nd group will have Dahlin and he is going to make that group at least respectable. Even if the 2nd group eats an additional 5 minutes a game that is huge for Risto and Scandella.

Leftie, they should be playing that game no matter who the coach is. It’s a speed league now and they need to get faster. Reinhardt isn’t a speed skater but he’s good in front of the net and might be able to really contribute as they put together a D that can get the puck to the net. I hope Housley succeeds.

Ok the way their playing they could be a 500 team this year but I don't think playoffs, maybe getting rid of the troublemakers helped but never know they could tank yet. they look better than the DA bills Went to the game today first one since way back last year. being so damn cheap i get a free ticket in a suite with the vets. wow free food and drinks(didnt have to drink water) during the game parked in the casino for free and walked to the pagula palace. I see the same old lots charging 20 bucks and then you have ones for 10.00. the $20.00 are crybaby carl lots . so as I walk out I notice ECSD swat truck parked by the pegula palace. you have to cops standing next to their truck they look like about 21years old and havent even shaved yet. the best part the 2 kid cops walking around with their auto weapons in hand. give me a break what are they trying to prove? your not needed stay in the damn truck with your weapons until your needed or go direct traffic would help. goofs.

Seven in a row for the first time in,what, 12 years? Nice to see them jump out early and play with a good lead for a change. They seem to gave better chemistry. If Thompson & Middlestadt get going they may reall have something.

Even better is they have the best team in the AHL with a handful of future very solid players and 3 first round picks in the next draft. The future if very bight at this point in time.
