Jim had a story about some unmowed grass on Rowan.

Why would the highway department mow that property? Who owns that area?

Isn't the cost of mowing added to the landowner's tax bill?

Don't know. I wonder what is town owned versus privately owned unless certain areas are mowed by the town for some reason.

On the Erie County Real Property Tax services site, it shows 10 properties on Rowan Rd, none owned by the town.

In Lancaster, the highway dept is obliged to mow entrances and cul de sacs of some subdivisions. Maybe there was some agreement when houses were put in that the town would maintain a certain area.

I wonder how they handle billing if that is the case. I don't think they should compete with local landscapers that can do the work. There must be something owned by the town in the area.

Saw something elsewhere that said the machine that town uses to maintain it is broken. That must be some special machine as the rest of us would use a weed whacker or lawn mower

The machine being broken was also mentioned in the Cheektowaga Chronicle article.

I wonder how they track what needs to be cut and that it was cut. Most landscaping companies use software to track client services. This is no different.

Next question is why is there "dedicated machine" for that specific job while others like it are also broken.

Instead of leasing a new machine why not just hire a landscape company to mow that spot?

It might cost us less to hire a private company versus maintaining equipment and employing someone's family member.

And why is that spot the responsibility of the town? It has to be owned by the town there would be no reason to really mow private property.

And I'm wondering how large of a spot they are referring to.

The article stated that the breakdown was the issue for the task not being done.

The county owns my frontage on a county road. The town owns that frontage, I would assume. Maybe it's that treed area in your pic that doesn't seem to be anyone's front yard
