I was told it was used for something else. Apparently it's not that unique. Who has it now?So what happened to the other vehicle the k9 officer used?
As a property owner I wouldn't say it's a big expense unless I had the actual number in front of me. Who wouldn't agree with this? I would also look at some of the facts like:
The original k9 officer got a dog donated for free, trained and ready to go.
So if the original employee who had the previous dog has a new dog what "training of the handler" is David talking about?
Salary implications?
How funny. The townboard/crew never met a raise they didn't go for yet now the excuse of "bump in pay" comes up. So when the original officer who had the dog no longer had the dog did the bump in pay get removed? IF not why not? It could be applied to the new person who handled the dog. My opinion is we would let the same person, if they wanted to, have the new dog.
So what happened to the other vehicle the k9 officer used?
What does this have to do with anything?
What is the opinion of the K9 officer on this topic?
Is the town charged anything when this happens from the other agencies?
I thought we are referring to a drug sniffing dog not a bomb dog. If so this is irrelevant.
So what are the issues?
Did we have issues with the old dog and the K9 officer?
I thought we were already donated a dog for free so what is he talking about?

"For example, the specialized vehicle for the K9 cost upwards of $50,000"
Not according to Brian. It's specialized.
We would ask Brian at a public board meeting what makes the vehicle specialized.
I'm basing this question on something I was told this week.
The article Jim wrote had:
"There’s the training of the handler. There’s the training of the dog. There’s the acquisition of the dog. There are salary implications. But also, the dog itself with food, veterinary bills and so forth. Those are all big expenses.”
If I was supervisor I would have to ask:
David, it was brought to my attention that another trained dog was donated to the town. We already have a trained handler and the dog is trained. Seeing the town always finds the funds for pay raises why are you now worried about salary implications? I was also told that sometimes food is donated as well. What other "big" expenses are you referring to....
As the dog food expense and vet bills go doesn't the town receive funds from property taken from drug busts? If so couldn't that be used to pay for the few hundred a month for expenses? Unless the dog get's munchies from being on duty I don't see it eating anymore than another dog... same for vet bills. Unless the dog would get injured there wouldn't be any more cost to owning a pet dog. Correct?

Did the town get rid of the original cage from the other vehicle?
They even have units that cost $1500

The k9 unit doesn't have to be a 50k tahoe.
They have cages starting at $2000 for Crown Victoria cars

Crown victorias went away of the dinosaur , the dog gets trained and the handler needs to be trained to handle that dog is my understanding.
There is $2.9 million increase in mostly contract expenses projected for 2019, If we can get a dog from another agency, that what will have to be done, unless the union members are willing to give back to fund the k9 unit.
problem is zack dont want the cop that was the handler for the last 15 years. he wants his boy. its the dog that makes the team. most cops have no clue about dog handling they are thrown into the postion. You have to train with them all the time. off duty not once a month.
God must love stupid people; He made so many
Today we give the cigar to cheekman.
Sunday I had a few messages come through. Was told David plays favorites and there might be someone else he wanted to be the k9 officer. 2 different people mentioned that as soon as the other dog passed the vehicle that was used was repurposed for traffic control rather quickly.
More reasons why people are leaving our town. People just get tired of the BS we hear how the town is ran.
When will our town board ask David what is going on and why?

Supervisor should ask what is going on.
Wouldn't it be safer for a dog to sniff out a car versus an employee searching a car?
I don't like grants just because they are available. Someone worked hard to earn that tax money where those grants comes from. In this case a few people also said some of the cost is covered by grants so I guess that is a good use in the end.
I was told the previous K9 guy was given a dog for free.
Does the town still own the original dog cage that was used?

I'm surprised at the amount of conflicting information I have received about this.
