Shall the number of councilmen be increased from two to four in the Town of West Sene

The petition to get a referendum on increasing the number of Councilmen in West Seneca from 2 to 4 is now available. Please note you cannot witness your own signature and the people signing the petition must be a registered voter in the Town. The person collecting the signature must also be a registered voter of the Town.

We will be organizing a meeting soon.

You can get the petition from the website: http://www.restore-representation-west-seneca.org/

5 people on the board is fair. When you guys went don't to 3 in total I thought that wasn't in the best interest of the property owners.

You can end up with 2 simple minded people lead around by 1. This is true on any board.

We have 7 in cheektowaga and I'd fine with 5. 7 doesn't really phase me either because in the end it's very little on your tax bill.

A few voices in the wilderness warned about the idiocy of a three member board but too many people were willing to follow the shoe shine rag and its idiot Pied Piper, Kevin Gaughan. And much of the anger was engendered by Joel Giambra and the bankruptcy of Erie County. Unfortunately, it was town governments bore the brunt.

The Town of West Seneca has a total budget of $50,663,045.00 (General, Highway and Special Districts). It provides services to approximately 45,463 residents over 21.41 square miles.

We often hear that government should be run more like a business.

However, the Town is currently governed by a 3 member Town Board. By private sector standards this is insufficient for effectively running this Town or most businesses.

" The first thing is human nature. After all, a board is nothing more than a group of human beings trying to work together to create the best results for the organization they are charged with directing and protecting. Human beings work best in groups of a certain size. Over the years a number of studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of group decision making. One such study by the authors of Decide and Deliver: 5 Steps to Breakthrough Performance in Your Organization determined that the optimum size for a decision-making group was seven people and that for each person added above this, the group’s decision making effectiveness was reduced by 10%. (Note 3) Another study found that the most effective number was five, but then noted that the effectiveness of the group decision making in groups between five and eight neither increases nor decreases. (Notes 7,8) Drawing from these studies, it would seem that the ideal board size as far as human decision making is somewhere between five and eight." http://dorgerconsulting.com/2011/07/...-of-directors/

Keep at it. It’s worth fighting for. Rule of thumb: if the Buffalo News originally supports it, it’s exactly the wrong thing to do.

Our petition to have a vote on increasing the town board back to 5 members was filed this afternoon in the West Seneca Town Clerk's Office. It contained 915 signatures, 229 more than the 686 needed. If the Town Board does not place it on the ballot for the General Election that vote on it must take place between 11/27 and 12/12.

Good Job. I wouldn't want only 3 people on out board. 5 would be fine.

We have just received word from the Town Attorney that they were advised that the proposition "Shall the number of councilmen be increased from two to four in the Town of West Seneca?" will appear on the ballot for the general election on November 6, 2018!

Dtwarren, good work! I hope it passes. That people actually voted against their own interests on the say-so of the likes of Kevin Gaughan and the editorial board of the Buffalo News continues to boggle my mind. As I’ve said repeatedly through the years: if the Buffalo News supports it, it’s exactly the wrong thing to do. Yet people in this area continue to follow their instruction and the area continues on the same downward spiral.
