    When to start yard work?

I have a few bushes to pull.... grass to plant, and flowers to plant... when should I start? Today I picked up a new tow strap.... 18,000lb 20ft long.... should do the trick...

But when should I start with the yard work?

Also when is a good time to trim bushes/trees?

The nest time is as soon as you can and NOT procrastinate.

I'd say anytime is ok, providing you're not freezing your ass off. As far as planting you may have to wait until after the last frost, so I wouldn't do that now.

I counted it as yard work. Amazing how much was out there once the snow melted.... I put it all in a crappy (no pun intended) garbage can and told the sanitation guy to take the whole thing.

It's way too early to start planting new flowers.
We still got a few snowfalls and frosts ahead of us.

You can actually "plant" grass seed right now. Just tear up the ground a bit and throw it on there. It won't grow until the ground is warm enough, but it will startup as soon as it can.
Things you can grow right now are some veggies. Peas with edible pods, spinach and chard all love the cold. The ground simply needs to have a shallow trench dug and sow away. Seed tape is even easier. You'll have you're first crop very shortly.

Prune bushes and trees right now, before the buds get too far along. This is a good time to sneak some bulbs into the ground, too.

I did do some minor pruning today... Last year was my first 'real' year of 'real' yard work where i somewhat changed the 'landscape' and made my yard look that much better... this year, I plan to do MASSIVE changes which will change the look of my property in a MASSIVE way... I was just gearing up last year.

thing is, I have 8 HUGE like, 4ft tall, 6ft deep, 8ft wide bushes to pull... and I want to reduce their deepness to about 3ft,.... which requires grass... I also want to plant new bushes...

so I have a bit of work ahead of me...

which brings me to another question...

whats a good bush to plant? when can I plant it? any tips?

it gots a ton of sun in the am, but no sun in the afternoon. I do not want trees.

well actually, I was thinking today, of possibly trying my hand at maybe a chinese maple for the back yard... I got the perfect spot for it... but thats besides the point...

I have VERY LARGE bushes directly infront of my house, and while they are trimmed and look alright, my house faces east so aside from aesthetics and maybe a little bit of wind reduction they have no benefit other than being a serious bitch to trim... which requires electrical tape, alot of cursing and a 10ft step ladder lol...

NO!!! It depends on the bushes and trees!

Anything that flowers like lilacs, rhododendrons, most hydrangeas, should only be pruned/trimmed immediately after they flower or you will be trimming off the buds. As far as I know, only what are commonly called "tree hydrangeas" can be pruned now.

Evergreens and deciduous, non-blooming, non-fruiting trees can be pruned now, though.

Some types of clematis vines can be pruned now, too, but it depends upon the clematis.

Personally, I only rake and pick up dog poop in March (that's what I did this afternoon) because we're still likely to get some snow. BTW, my crocuses are blooming in the front and side yards where they get lots of sun in their raised beds.

I pulled out 50 yr old privet hedge, 20 of them. Soak the ground the night before and put a chain securely around the bottom of the bushes. Attach chain to truck and pull away!

Stone fruit trees get pruned mid summer. All shrubs and trees are different.
