Koch group warns cities against 'corporate welfare' for Amazon

A Koch-backed group started an ad campaign Wednesday aimed at dissuading local governments from lavishing Amazon with taxpayer-funded benefits to win the company’s second headquarters.

Generation Opportunity, a group within the Koch network that engages with millennials, rolled out a video bashing “corporate welfare” for Amazon, to run on social media in the 19 U.S. localities that are finalists for the headquarters.

It is wrong in my opinion. Other business's tax dollars should not go to businesses that will compete with them.

Amazon pulls out of plans to come to New York

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Amazon says it will not be building a new headquarters in New York, a stunning reversal after a yearlong search.

The online retailer has faced opposition from some New York politicians, who were unhappy with the tax incentives Amazon was promised.

Amazon said Thursday it does not plan to look for another location, and will continue to build out offices in Arlington, Virginia, and Nashville, Tennessee.

Amazon pays no federal income tax for 2018, despite soaring profits, report says

Profits for online retail behemoth Amazon soared in 2018, but it paid no federal income tax for the second consecutive year, according to a report published Wednesday.

The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy says the company is subject to a 21 percent tax rate on its U.S. income. However, through various tax breaks and credits, the company will receive a tax rebate of $129 million.

That's despite the company nearly doubling its profits to $11.2 billion in 2018, up from $5.6 billion the previous year, ITEP reported.

How about that. Most of the small retail businesses that compete against Amazon pay taxes yet Amazon didn't.

Democrats are tearing themselves apart over Amazon

Democrats are fighting mad — at each other. For once, President Trump is not the prime target of their rage.

Amazon’s decision to scrap plans for an HQ2 campus in New York sent the circular firing squad into action. The blue-on-blue attacks pit the far left against the far, far left in yet another front of the party’s civil war.

In the end I don't agree with giving businesses that compete with other businesses breaks. Specially retail. The people who will lose their jobs competing against Amazon don't give two craps about 25,000 new jobs at Amazon.

The officials argued that the public “investment” would pay huge dividends because Amazon promised to create 25,000 new jobs, many of them high-paying. Politicians often describe these arrangements by saying the government will “partner” with the firms, which always reminds me of how the *Mafia likes to “partner” with businesses.
In this instance it's not public investment. How many small businesses want to "invest" in a company who's main goal is to put them out of business? When was the last time you saw Tim Horton's "invest" in another donuts shop to compete with them?
