Exclamation West seneca taxpayers must act now!

On January 18, 2018 the West Seneca Town Board passed a resolution, subject to a permissive referendum, authorizing the borrowing through a bond an additional $5,100,000.00 to provide additional financing for the partial reconstruction of and construction of an addition to the Public Library building at 1300 Union Road. In order for the taxpayers of the Town of West Seneca to have a vote on this issue a petition must filed in the Town Clerk's office by February 17, 2018. This petition must have signatures in an amount equal to 5% of the number of votes cast in the Town for Governor in the last gubernatorial election. This is approximately 686 registered voters who live in the Town.

Please circulate this petition and gather signatures of people you know who are a registered voter in the Town. Also note you cannot witness your own signature so sign a petition that a friend is circulating so they can witness your signature.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We will post instructions on where to bring the signed petitions at a later time.

DT, good luck. Do the people who prepared the petition have experience with such things? The courts are eager to throw out referendum petitions that challenge govt. spending. They need legislative and executive support to maintain and increase their obscene compensation package. Il Douche’s threat to make judges file monthly time records was his way of telling the courts they’d better go easy on Pigeon, his campaign contributors and others close to him who will soon be coming to trial.

Why is there a need for a larger library when many people and currently libraries have access to the internet?

Isn't this the library that was just remodeled? I looked at google maps 1300 Union Road and the photo is sept 2017.

So they want an additional 5 million? Did someone quote the project incorrectly?

Here is the lowdown, The term "library" in this case is under describing this multi-use over priced building.

The building currently under construction is part library, part cafe, part youth center, part office complex and now they want to addon to the not yet completed building.

This is the boards way of getting a new town hall without a public vote. I believe that the voters have rejected a new town hall in the past.

Just the fact that they tore down a youth center then added it the "Library " tells me it is a BS project , because when I went to the WS Youth center as a kid, it was a loud place with music, TV's, video games dodge ball and more going on. Not exactly a library atmosphere.

This is politics at its worst with political players forcing their costly pet projects (without the $5.1mil addition it's at $14mil and counting) on the taxpayers without any public vote!!

Who on earth do they have involved on this project? They need 5 people on the town board and at least 3 of them who's only interest are the property owners.

They down sized to a 3 person board who are only interested in photo ops and spending lots of money!

The voters re-elected one of them even after a 15% tax hike was proposed, this is proof the minority of voters ( friends, family and town employees) are controlling our towns because the majority will not get off their asses to vote!

Grump: Thank you, yes I used a petition on a similar issue that was challenged in Court and the challenge failed, so at least I have some cases to cite!

As of tonight we have more than enough to file the petition. We needed 686 signatures and as of last count we have 1,269 with signed petitions coming in.

When the first bond was taken out we were told (led to believe) that was to be the only bonding for this project ( http://www.westsenecabee.com/news/20...r_project.html ). Councilman Hart stated at the January 18th meeting that this additional borrowing is needed to bridge a gap between now and the receipt of grant money. He further said that this additional borrowing was due to the need to use contractors rather than the town workforce as originally planned. So if the bond gets voted down they can simply stick to their original scheduling/plans. (See: http://www.westseneca.net/applicatio...0125141953.pdf ). It is time the voters take back their voice and have an up or down vote on this borrowing. It is apparent that our town board has abdicated its duty to watch over our town's finances, so we the voters must take over.

DT, good luck. Hope you win. Just beware if it ends up in court. As we’ve seen over the last couple of years the courts are loaded with judges who will sell their decisions for hockey tickets or an afternoon of drinking followed by fun & frolic in the back seat of a car.

You mean, they don't go to Ellicott Creek Park and expose themselves anymore?

    From: http://buffalonews.com/2018/02/26/we...munity-center/

West Seneca is calling a halt to spending on its $14.93 million library and community center project – nine weeks before it was to open.

The move by the Town Board Monday night is in response to a petition filed Feb. 16, requesting a public referendum on the town's plan to issue an additional $5.1 million bonds for the project.

During the pause in spending, the board ordered a financial review of the project.

"This comprehensive review will look at very specific directives related to the project and result in a detailed report outlining a responsible path forward to successfully complete the project and limit the exposure of the town and taxpayers," Town Supervisor Sheila M. Meegan said, in a news release on Monday.

The review will outline the status of construction, project costs to date, costs necessary to complete the building, legal obligations under existing contracts, and ability to complete portions of the work to save money.

So no referendum? The scumbags are looking to end run you and when all the passion has died they’ll bring it back with more spending than ever.
