Board offers suggestions to struggling Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, NY-- A New York State office called Financial Restructuring Board for Local Governments has offered some new recommendations for the struggling city of Niagara Falls to help them save money.

The board found that the Cataract City suffers from low housing values, as well as having one of the highest property tax rates in the state.

The board also found that while the city does receive revenue from the Seneca Nation Gaming compact, that revenue has been declining over recent years.

To help combat costs, the board recommends that the city and county combine services, like civil service and dispatch services.

The mayor needs to stop spending money on trying to promote tourism(The wallenda stunt.Really,8:30am on a weekday isn't going to draw a crowd). The streets need to be cleaned up and a lot of the landlords need to be held accountable and their properties brought up to code.(Ralph Pescrillo can have code enforcement sitting around the corner when the water gets shut off on one of his properties.Ends up condemned until he can get the tenant out and he can get a new one in.).I believe the 911 dispatch is already combined with the county,When you call your asked "What City?".And the casino revenue was going to go down no matter what.Once the shine dulled on the cities new toy, people started going elsewhere. Not to mention the neighborhood surrounding the place. It's just been mis-managed to the point where it's at the brink of not being able to come back. The best thing that could happen is if the state would bring in outside people to manage it and do away with the mayors office and city council.City council alone would save the city a ton in healthcare benefits alone.

Why do you think the mayor focuses on tourism instead of the items that would really clean up the area?

My suggestion to the City of Niagara Falls: abandon its decades long fealty to the Democratic Party and elect responsible government for a change.
