Downtown Washington grocey market is closing

Washington Market, Downtown's only grocery, will close its doors after a clearance sale.

Owner Michael Khoury announced the news Oct. 2 on the market's Facebook page.

"This week will be our last, as we will be closing The Washington Market after lunch on Friday," he wrote. "We've been a part of this growing downtown area for a decade and it's been a great ride. There's too many thoughts and feelings to express but, in short, we feel lucky to have gotten to know so many of the residents and workers in the area and will miss you all dearly."

Khoury took over the market, at 461 Ellicott St., in 2016, expanding its line of groceries, practical items for downtown dwellers, and beer

There is a story in Business First

    Downtown food market closing

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - A food market seen as a success story in efforts to bring retail back to the heart of the city is closing.

The Washington Market, located between Chippewa and Tupper, announced Monday on its Facebook page that this Friday, October 6th would be its last day in business at its original location.

"We've been a part of this growing downtown area for a decade and it's been a great ride. There's too many thoughts and feelings to express but, in short, we feel lucky to have gotten to know so many of the residents and workers in the area and will miss you all dearly."

But it looks like the market is saying 'see you soon' and not 'goodbye for good.'

"We're also really excited about the future and will keep you posted on our new location that we'll be opening in the near future," the market said.

Did you miss the part where the market is moving, not closing permanently?

I sure don't understand how someone who professes to have the perfect life, in the perfect place where everything is perfect and everything that's perfect eventually comes to stay in beautiful, expanding, glorious, perfect Pheonix, AZ but
then spends so much time looking for way to denigrate the city she claims she turned her back on years ago.

What a sad little life you must actually live if you spend so much of it pathetically trolling for anything negative you can find about Buffalo, so you can race the the local WNY forums to rub it in people's faces. It's freaking sad. I can only imagine what horrible thing this city did to you to exact so much vengeance and so much sadistic glee when you stumble upon any little thing.

You're a real piece of work. I try to envision what people online look like based on how they talk, etc and you, I see as a less than average attractive, over weight, middle aged frumpy woman who never quite understood why everyone else had so much happiness while you were so lonely. I can see you sitting in the latest Walmart fashions, thinking it's a good thing no one could see who you really are hiding behind that keyboard. I'm not saying this is what you look like, just the impression I get.

Now before you type a bunch of lol's and tell me how wrong I am, hold that until you're ready to prove it. And if you're not willing to prove it, then I guess you're admitting I'm correct.

Hope you're not one of those people that claims to be as Christian, too......

What people in Erie County call trolling is called reality and Erie County's worst days are yet to come, You better get a king sized diaper because with the shrinking tax base and the skyrocketing costs of providing the services and the corrupt local governments & unions don't give a SH*T They will keep raising property taxes higher, higher & higher untill people wont be to afford them and you won't be able to sell them either because they will be more houses for sale then buyers. They will forclose on house's to pay for their yearly raises, because their entiled to it and they will say if you can't afford to pay them or can't sell your house , TOO BAD IT's MIND MIND MIND . Speaking of how people look, Not only does most of Buffalo look like a zombie apocalypse has happed, but it also has lots & lots of walking dead.

When the Bills signed Antowain Boldin and was coming to Buffalo, He thought Buffalo was like Detriot. In e camp the other players were telling him how bad buffalo was and there were no clubs there, After training camp, He headed to Buffalo to look for a place to live and he was in disbelief how destitude Buffalo was and he couldn't believe 100's of people were celebrating the dilapidated grain elevators, He said man, I gotta to get out of here, these people are crazy !!!!!!!!!!!l

Just because you imagine how it went down, doesn't make it remotely true.

Whether you like the poster "jennifer" or not they are making some very valid points that should not be ignored. It's the delivery method that needs to be worked on. Helping with a little fact checking wouldn't hurt on their part.

As soon as a poster goes to the level of "I see as a less than average attractive, over weight, middle aged frumpy woman who never quite understood why everyone else had so much happiness while you were so lonely. " you lost the argument. Someone's weight, attractiveness or dress style usually has no bearing on how successful they may be. Judging someone by their weight or looks is no different than judging someone by the color of their skin. RIght?

I didn't lose anything. There's no argument. It's just an opinion. I didn't even accuse her of actually looking that way, but said it;s the impression I get from the way she posts
