Hey, I was surprised to see the % change, an increase of 3.7% in our tax bill.

Just think... over a short 10 year period with only a 3.7% increase after 10 years you are paying over 37% more. Adds up fast. It's actually more because you need to take into account a 3.7% increase of the previous 3.7% increase.

    Hey it's only 3.7%...

If you school taxes are $5000 over 10 years they will be $7,190.47. Here is where the BS starts. You'll have people in "government" starting to point out "unfair pricing" for like Cable TV or Gas yet ignore what we are "charged" for services when it's lining their pockets.

    $5,000.00 3.70% $5,185.00
    $5,185.00 3.70% $5,376.85
    $5,376.85 3.70% $5,575.79
    $5,575.79 3.70% $5,782.09
    $5,782.09 3.70% $5,996.03
    $5,996.03 3.70% $6,217.88
    $6,217.88 3.70% $6,447.94
    $6,447.94 3.70% $6,686.52
    $6,686.52 3.70% $6,933.92
    $6,933.92 3.70% $7,190.47

    Thanx for posting Res.

Your observations and hard numbers puts it into understandable perspective.

To put perspective words to your numbers, because the government says 3.7% increase is not an increase, beckons the Grouch Marx line "...are you going to believe me or your lyin' eyes."

Sorry, my income source simply does not mitigate this "stealth" increase.

    Thanx again Res.

My taxes and others that I've looked at have gone up 1.75% over last years. That's before any exemptions. The 'True tax'

I don't seem to remember hearing of such tax-related math from my parents growing-up in the 50s and 60s. I don't think I started off as a polliwog.

The school district tax levy increased by 3.7%. Like you Gorga, my school tax increased by only 1.75 after Star; my only exemption.

Over the past 8 years since the last reassessment took place (2010) my total tax increase has only been $65 or 4.8% over that 8-year period; an annual average increase of 0.61%. I live in an average market value home – far from it being a McMansion.

In comparison the town’s 2018 tax levy increased by 4.74%. Unlike the school district tax, it includes a County Service tax and a Library tax. So, while no apples-to-apples comparison my 2018 town/county property tax did increase by 4.1%. Over the same 8-year period (since the last reassessment in 2010) my property tax has increased by only 2.1% ($48) - an annual average of 0.26%.

Obviously one size doesn’t fit all. Property market value, exemptions, etc. all cause differences in tax structure. But using percent increases in tax levy as a determining factor in percent tax increase is incorrect.
