Wow I thought the hover craft was auctioned off a while ago...

Unused, town owned hovercraft could be placed on the auction block

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – A hovercraft owned by the Town of Cheektowaga may soon hit the auction block after ancillary costs to appease the DEC put the vehicle in storage according to Highway Superintendent Mark Wegner.

The 6-year-old hovercraft was purchased new in 2011 for $69,992 from Cyncon Equipment Inc., of Rush, New York. The vehicle was to be used by the highway department for water way maintenance and as a rescue vehicle.
“We can’t get to the trees by the airport, the water there is 8 to 12 feet deep and there are trees all in the creeks,” said Mr. Wegner.
NO one thought about this before buying the thing?

We spoke to Mr. Wegner and he says the vehicle requires ramps to enter and exit the town’s water ways. He says the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation would allow the ramps but ancillary costs associated with appeasing the DEC are not beneficial to the taxpayers.

The last 25 years while under the control of the Cheektowaga Democratic Party hasn't been beneficial to the taxpayers.

no one wants it no engine they blew it up. Its been sitting in the highway yard collecting dust. Fish fry mark wanted to us this in the creeks to clear brush and trees. He must have been drunk when he thought of that idea. Would you want to work off this thing. A lot of the problems with flooding around here as of late is due to not clearing off the major creeks banks around here. All most all of these major creeks are just loaded with brush and trees that restrict the flow of water. The County could careless about the problem.Years ago they were cleaned by using gradalls by the county they had a mess of them. Cheektoaga use to have a ditch crew and a special machine for cutting the banks of the creeks. packers told me no longer. no one is cutting the banks or cleaning out creeks. Then people wonder why areas have been flooding. Clean out the creeks would be a start. They have had two very mild winters clean out the creeks instead of playing cards in the shop. A big joke your taxes not at work.

talked to more of the guys in the town workforce the past week. Creek cleaning is not a priority anymore with fish fry mark or shopping cart pusher asst mike. The dept has one backhole in the dept which is not the best thing to use to clean a creek. So like most towns and the county do not clean creeks. Flooding problems is part of the reasons you have this in the town. Hoover craft was a joke for creek cleaning someone would of have got killed on this thing. next time you see a town politician askthem why the creeks are not getting cleaned?
