New global Amazon headquarters to Buffalo New York

City of Buffalo looking for residents’ ideas to bring new global Amazon headquarters to city

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The City of Buffalo is looking to residents for ideas on how to convince Amazon to bring a new, $5 billion second headquarters for the corporation.
Residents are encouraged to call the city’s 311 line Friday to share creative ideas and ways to convince Amazon to pick Buffalo as the city to build its second home.
Amazon currently has its headquarters in Seattle. The online retail giant announced Thursday that it is looking to build a second global headquarters somewhere in North America.

Cities already want to host Amazon’s second headquarters

(CNN) – Cities are already eager to be the new home for Amazon’s second headquarters.

Amazon (AMZN, Tech30) on Thursday announced plans to open a second headquarters in North America. Dubbed “HQ2,” the facility will cost at least $5 billion to construct and operate and will employ as many as 50,000 workers.
Cities and regional economic development organizations have been invited to submit proposals, and several cities have already expressed interest in the possibility of Amazon’s new headquarters coming to their turf.

A source close to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told CNN Tech the mayor has spoken “several times” with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos about the second headquarters. Amazon declined to comment.

AMAZON IN WNY? WHY NOT, LEADERS SAY

There's fierce competition for Amazon's $5 billion project-- and Western New York is making a bid.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Allow yourself to dream for a moment.

Amazon, one of the nation's largest and most powerful publicly-traded corporations, wants to open a second headquarters somewhere in North America to supplement its current headquarters in Seattle. The new $5 billion facility, dubbed "HQ2," would bring 50,000 jobs to one lucky community, with an average wage surpassing six-figures. Everybody wants this project: Toronto, Chicago, Pittsburgh, even St. Louis, whose professional baseball team made an amusing Twitter pitch to Amazon. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any city or region.

Why Not, first off, Buffalo already does not a have chance, Amazon's 2nd HQ requirements, 1. No extreme weather climate, Buffalo has harsh cold long winters & lots of snow 2. Internatonal Airport, Buffalo's Airport is not a international airport 3. Mass Transportation system, Buffalo does not have a mass transit system, Buffalo has one 1980's light rail line, 4. Million plus population, all of WNY is barely a Million and shrinking 5. a stable economy , Buffalo has been in ecomonic depression for for 50 years 6. well run government Buffalo & Erie County has 2 control boards for over 10 years. NYS can offer Amazon billions to come, But every city is offering them billions too.

You still make your pitch and try to land the account/client. We have everything here in the area for any company to operate and succeed. Unfortunately what we don't have is a well ran "Government". We have a group of people who's best quality is to deliver over priced services to the community which give our area some of the highest property taxes in the nation. Notice how they have to remove their cost of operating to lure businesses into the area? IDA tax breaks and/or grants. That right there tells you they have a negative impact on our economic climate in the area. They have the nerve to do this while the other businesses/home owners continue to pay high taxes while others receive breaks. Now I have to go mow the lawn.

After 4 years NYS has stopped airing commercials here about how it's now the new New York State, they are lowering taxes and are the lowest in history, and it's business friendly and NYS has s invested in new infrastructure LOL Mostly likely because NYS has got a 100's & 100's million of dollars deficit coming. Now the Eastern Malls is for sale, another WNY mall going bankrupt, In Scottsdale AZ they are building a new 5 story mall Scottsdale Fashion Square with 500 stores.

Here's an idea. Change the city's name to Silicon Valley.

They may do that, Commercial Developers & Home builders are buying up every inch of under developed land as fast as they can, Dairy Farmers & Farmers are becoming millionaires over night just by selling their land. Dirt roads are becoming 6 to 8 lane Boulevards. Planning & Design Board meetings have so much on their plates that the meetings are running well in the wee hours. Just about every current Freeway is being widing 2 to 4 additonal lanes after the 1st year, and their are 7 new Freeways either under construction or being designed that are fully funded. Their are several more new Freeways that were planned to be needed after 2030 are needed now and being moved up earlier for funding & construction. .

    This is a start

Buffalo and Rochester to work together on Amazon HQ proposal

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo and Rochester metro regions are working together to try and bring Amazon’s proposed second headquarters to the region.

The announcement was made by Invest Buffalo Niagara on Thursday morning.

“In assessing the full scope of the Amazon HQ2 RFP opportunity, it was apparent that by linking our efforts, the combined Buffalo Rochester Metro Corridor can offer a proposal that is both compelling and extremely competitive,” InBN President and CEO Tom Kucharski and GRE Interim President and CEO Matt Hurlbutt said. “With over 2.2 million people, a very talented labor pool, and an extremely livable community, our organizations are excited to join forces in attempting to draw the interest of Amazon.”

So not only is WNY not a fit for multiple of the requirements from Amazon but the powers that be decide to submit a bit that goes against requirements that they could produce. Comical.

It's right in the damn RFP:

In choosing the location for HQ2, Amazon has a preference for:
    * Metropolitan areas with more than one million people
    * A stable and business-friendly environment
    * Urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent
    * Communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options

HQ2 could be, but does not have to be:
    * An urban or downtown campus
    * A similar layout to Amazon’s Seattle campus
    * A development-prepped site. We want to encourage states/provinces and communities to think creatively for viable real estate options, while not negatively affecting our preferred timeline

Priority for Consideration (in no particular order):
Amazon will consider the following site/building categories for the Project:
    1. Existing buildings of at least 500,000+ sq. ft., meeting the core requirements described above and that are expandable or have additional options for development nearby.
    2. A greenfield site of approximately 100 acres certified or pad ready, with utility infrastructure in place. The sites do not have to be contiguous, but should be in proximity to each other to foster a sense of place and be pedestrian-friendly.
    3. Other infill, existing buildings, including opportunities for renovation/redevelopment and greenfield sites, meeting the proximity and logistics requirements of the Project. This can also be a combination of the above.
    4. Please also consider the overall proximity of the buildings at full build-out as you are making recommendations.

I didn't say the people going for it were qualified.

    I said it's a start.

while not negatively affecting our preferred timeline
This is an issue. Time stand still for no one.
