How much more do the taxpayers have to take? WP does an interview with Channel 2 and says we don't have 3 million to fix the Police Dept which covers the entire town, but wants us to spend 12 million on an ice rink for 800 people. The next election can't come fast enough.
Simple solution, Erie County Sheriffs or State Troopers, saving millions
I don't remember Wally P. saying we should build a new ice rink. I only heard that he wants to put the question up for voters, which would be necessary to spend that much money.
I read about Monday's Board Meeting and the people objecting about moving the Engineering and Building Departments to the space vacated at the Burchfield Center by Americorp. Will these same people be willing to pay for a new Police Station? I doubt it.
There was a voter referendum for a new Police Station next to Town Hall in 1982. It was soundly defeated, and that was in a good (or at least pretty decent) economy.
I have said this before, I would support bonding to provide the needed space for the Police Department.
In fact I think we should bond converting the current ice rink into a police/courts building rather than sinking money into an ice rink.
