Thank you Marie Mackay

Tonight marks the end on an era at the Lancaster Central School Districts Board of education. Marie Mackay will have completed 15 years of service on the board. Put into proper context of donated time it equates to approximately over 500 hours of meeting times, plus extended times when executive sessions were held. In addition, Mrs. Mackay participated and went to many of the programs the district had for events directly involving students and their accomplishments. Furthermore, she served as President, Vice President of the School Board and was on a number of board committees in an effort to improve the Districts standing among the landscape of WNY Schools. Being in a leadership position demands even greater commitment in time as you can imagine.

Her personal involvement in professional development as a board member working with BOCES also needs to be considered in the amount of time she dedicated to the District. Mrs. Mackay presided over a board that saw many changes and superintendents over the years. Put into even further context, those students who entered kindergarten the year she became a board member are now either junior or seniors in college, or working at vocational endeavors or are gainfully employed in other ways. The community should be greatful to someone who gave so much of her time and effort to see to it that the District she loves has produced so many stellar results. I for one thank you Mrs. Mackay for the countless hours in dedication. Enjoy you retirement from the board.

Marie MacKay possessed the leadership skills, commitment, tenacity, and desire to best serve her community school districts educational needs; contributing much to the district’s rise in rankings and national recognition, and student educational proficiency gains.

Never shirking from doing what in her mind was the right and fair direction to take, she often bumped heads with others of different opinions; too often others with political agendas.

In the long run the Lancaster accomplished much under her tutelage.
