    New park in South Lancaster?

It looks like the Lancaster Depew Soccer Club is trying to get the ball rolling on a town land acquisition.

    https://www.change.org/p/new-york-st...n-lancaster-ny

    1. We, the undersigned, support the acquisition of land located at 457 Lake Ave, Lancaster NY, 14086 for development as a municipal park with a focus on soccer and hereby request that the Lancaster Town Board approve the acquisition.
    2. We, the undersigned, request the New York State Office of Parks, Recreatioon, and Historic Preservation award the Town of Lancaster an Environmental Protection Fund grant in an amount equal to 50% of the cost of acquisition and planning for said property.
Now, from looking at a map and the GIS site, it appears that this is the land that a developer bought for Deer Run Estates.

At the Master plan meeting, someone from the soccer club requested a park in the south end of town. I don't believe they mentioned that they had a particular property in mind.

    Is SBL 115.19-3-7.1 for sale?

I thought that land was full of wetlands. Perhaps a park can get around those much more easily than a development

The Erie county GIS only shows 2 small areas in the National Wetland Inventory on that property. If it's accurate, I don't know.

When a town takes over land how do they decide the value for the current owner?

    WHEREAS, upon purchase of said property, the Town wishes to engage the services of an engineering firm to produce design and construction documents necessary to construct recreational facilities on said property;

Recreational is the key word – fields.

The town has been looking to buy land and/or have it deeded over to build more soccer and lacrosse fields. If the grant doesn't happen, neither will the fields.

Whatever happened to the LaFarge land donation? 2009, I think that was also an election year for Ruffino.

Town Board committed to bringing more athletic fields to Lancaster

Yes gorja, he does have a pattern. gorja, can you look and see when the Ruffino clocks were done-possibly an election year for that one too. Each election cycle for him, he proposes something that he thinks appeals to the taxpayers.

If they do add 42 more acres of park land to the park system, they'll need to add more labor to the department.
Eight employees wouldn't be able to handle what they have now and the additional acreage during Spring (March, April, the first 3 weeks of May) and Fall (end of August, September, October, sometimes into November) when there are no seasonal employees, JMHO.

Danny is already stretched to his limits on personnel. I don't see this a needed addition considering the parks are underutilized.

    Bravo Johanna.

She had many questions of Councilman Ruffino.
Ruffino stated that he already knows we won't get the grant.
When Johanna asked him about sewage, since that seem to be the reason Deer Run estates never came to be, Ruffino stated they would use port-a-potties. She also asked if there was a wetland delineation since no information passed along with the resolution. She had been told by Dawn info about other properties one near the Little red school house and another in Elma. She also asked Ruffino the cost of the property. He said it was confidential. She said do you think the rest of the board could have that information and he said yes. She said the property would never be developed as a subdivision. He said that's not what he's being told that there others interested in the property.

To me that sounds like he's scamming us taxpayers into believing we have to acquire the property ASAP before it's not available.

Kudo's JoHanna!!! She is an astute lady. Ruffino not providing the cost to the board beforehand smells sour. When you offer up a proposal, the board and the taxpayers should have those details.

This is typical of Ruffino in every election year, it is another impulsive move just like the Ruffino clocks.

She may have been playing the devil's advocate but the result was some transparency.
