Bigot councilman Wingo has a problem with Catholics

Not sure why others haven't mentioned but the race baiting and intolerant Ulysees O. Wingo Sr. made some pretty interesting comments...

"If parents feel a Catholic education is right for them, by all means go to your Catholic schools and have fun saying your Catholic prayers," he said during the debate that followed.
"I take exception to the idea that affluent parents who send their children to Catholic schools should have a right, based off of the fact they are Catholic, that they should have exclusive rights to City Honors," he said during the debate, later adding: "I support City Honors . . . What I don't support is a lack of diversity. We have Buffalo public school students who are equally qualified . . . "

This is of course over the BPS deciding to lower the standards to get into City Honors to allow for a more realistic representation of just what BPS schools should look like. Or, another way to put it...regardless of how good of a student they are there needs to be more blacks in the school because most of the city is black. They used to have 7 factors to determine admission. They have already removed several like an essay on why you should go there. It's only a matter of time before black kids don't have to do anything other than check a box on their skin color to get in.

The best part for me in all of this is going to watch City Honors crumble. Gone from the conversation on just how bad BPS is will be 'but, but...we have CityHonors and the suburbs don't even have that' or teachers who underperform in less performant schools hanging their teacher contract on the performance of a tiny selection of BPS students.

I give it 6-8 years before this top 100 national school is not even ranked in the region.

They don't base admission on grades and intelligence? If this won't be the case why not just make it a normal public school like the rest of them?

Everyone should have the "right" to attend any school they qualify for if standards are set. Standards shouldn't be lowered if the point of the school is to teach the best and the brightest.

The only reason why City Honors was what it was is simply due to the fact they took the top 1,000 students out of 30,000 and put them in a single building. They kept others out with admission standards. Wasn't the teachers or a special formula. It was just a process of elimination.

The idiots like this Wingo guy don't understand that. They are going to, like most everything else, destroy something in pursuit of equality and access.

Wingo is simply parroting the anti-Catholicism shared by Obama, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Islam in general, teachers unions, school boards, Hollywood, most national news correspondents, tv networks and others. What has gone unsaid is the City Honors is one of the original magnet schools set up to buy off the rich and politically connected as part of Judge Curtin's antic scheme to "desegregate" the Buffalo schools. Those schools were designed to shelter the kids of the rich and politically connected from the reach of Curtin's bizarre decisions.

Nowadays...it's called being Politically Correct.!...If a white politician or Civic leader made these same statements..as Wingo did...there would be calls, protests, marches for removal...now that's what is called bigotry.

This isn't political correctness. It's the 'black pass' just like the '[insert body part] pass'.....

Political correctness is the fear of others calling out the 'black pass' for fear of being called a racist.

I'd say Wingo was a hack job.
City honors wasn't known as the school with the whitest students but the school with the brightest students.
They should keep up the high standards for admission and let the chips fall where they may.
Isn't Affirmative action (white male discrimination) part of the past, not the present?
