New York State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi issued the following statement today regarding the audit his office is conducting of the Erie County budget:

“Along with Governor Pataki and Sen. Volker, we understand the urgency of delivering the Erie County audit as soon as possible. We have a dozen people working full time on the audit and we will finish it as soon as possible, but not next week. To be useful to the people of Erie County, the audit must be thorough, complete and accurate. That takes time. We originally set a date of June 15. If we can issue a thorough accurate audit before then, we will.”
