Man shot in hand on Niagara Street Thursday

NIAGARA FALLS — Niagara Falls police are looking for a suspect in a shooting that injured a man while he was walking in the 1900 block of Niagara Street Thursday morning.


Police said the victim was walking in the area about 9 a.m. when he heard a male voice behind him yell “yo.”


The victim told police he turned around and saw a man he did not recognize pointing a handgun at him.


The victim said he turned to run away when the suspect started shooting at him. The victim told police he thought five to six shots were fired, one of which hit him in the hand. The victim was treated at Erie County Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery.


The suspect is described as a black male, about 5-foot-6, with short hair who is in his early 20s. Police said he was wearing a long-sleeve brown shirt at the time of the shooting.
