The practice of inclusive education is founded on the principle that students with disabilities are entitled to the same quality education in a social environment as their peers. However, because there is a pervasive narrative of charity towards disabled people in our society, many see inclusive education as merely a benevolent act.
In this provocative presentation, filled with humor and personal anecdotes, Norman Kunc and Emma Van der Klift draw on their experience as two adults with different disabilities who experienced the school system in different ways and with different degrees of success. They stress that inclusive education needs to remain grounded in civil rights.
