We’re back! Curtain Up! 2022 Theatre District Association President Chris J Handley has
announced plans for the event which will take place in Buffalo's historic Theatre District on
Friday September 16, 2022. This will be the 41st annual celebration of the opening of Buffalo’s
professional theatre season presented by Theatre District Association of Western New York and
sponsored by M&T Bank. It is the first time back in person since 2019.

The Theatre District will kick off the week by inducting internationally acclaimed actor and
director, Vincent O’Neill into the Plaza of Stars. The Dublin born actor was embraced by the
Buffalo community when he and his brother performed here in 1985 and brought classic Irish
plays, playwrights, and actors to the Buffalo Niagara region. As Artistic Director Emeritus he
continues to lend his voice and passion to the Irish Classical Theatre Company. Vincent’s star
will be unveiled on Monday, September 12 at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

The free street celebration will feature exciting performances and entertainment shining a
spotlight on the theatre industry in WNY and supporting businesses passionate about the joy
and magic of theatre. “We have been waiting for this moment.” says Chris Handley. “It is as
much a continued celebration of our diverse community coming back as it is a celebration of
theatre.”
